If I'm still here in L.A. when Beckham starts playing for the Galaxy, I may just have to go see a game or two. And I'm not even a soccer fan... perhaps that says something about the potential impact he could have.

his money deal is outrageous. 250 million over 5 years. a-rod makes that in 10 years...and the AP article says he will get paid approx. 1 mil a week.

well it's obvious this is being done for the money, not like he needs it, already has enough from endorsements.

I live in Madrid and i am a Real Madrid supporter. Beckham and Ronaldo have been here a number of seasons, and they have done NOTHING here (apart from feeding their bank accounts, that is). I could say that Ronaldo is the most unprofesional player that ever played for RM. 99% Real Madrid fans believe that these two guys leaving is very very good news, overdue news actually.

Well of course, by European standards, these guys are completely washed up. I saw the stats for Beckham, only 7 league goals for real madrid is well dissapointing for europe but, honestly this could not be beeter for America. He has the potential to legitimize this league and also can hlp the Americans during international competition by being a mentor to some of the younger players in this country that are actually decent on the world scale like his future teammate Landon Donovan

Real Madrid had great players, just not a team.
Beckham's spanish language skills might prove useful in broadening the support for Major League Soccer.

That's a lot of money considering the number 1 team in the nation changed owners for a mere 33 mill. He better do something good for the sport.

True, for that amount of money, Beckham had better have an impact on the sport in America. He has the opportunity to go either way; he could prove a positive influence and could raise soccer (football) to a new level here in the States, or he could bask in his own fame/notoriety and be a huge tool, which could have quite the opposite effect. Let's hope he's sincere in his supposed desire to grow the sport, and that he makes friends with his teammates instead of making Galaxy a one-man show.
In any event, I hope the team's management finds a way to add some seats to Galaxy's Carson, CA stadium (Home Depot Center)... I think it holds like 25 or 27.000 people. That will be quite the step down from Bernabu.

A full, small stadium is much better than a nearly empty big one.
