you just described my school, we put tons of money into the football team and they still suck. Also so many more people study more than me and i beat them by doing nothing.

Here are some things about Nashville.
At our H.S. graduation girls wore all white while the guys were in school colors. I think this custom is a southern thing and I respect it.
We have the largest kurdish population of any city in the US.
It's also country music city
It was voted by some travel agency's tourist survey to have the nicest ppl. in the US.

I've survived one and a half school years with extremely minimal studying while some people study for hours each day and either get the same kind of grades that I get or somehow end up with worse grades than someone who studies maybe one hour per semester.

Umm, How about an actual sense of community here. A lot of SD Communities try to regard themselves as individual cities (La Jolla, Torrey Pines, North Park, Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach... You've probably heard all of those referred to as cities if you've heard of them, and they aren't) So there is often lobbying and community meetings to discuss how to "break away" from the rest of the city (especially in La Jolla's case)
Hmm, What wierd things do San Diegans do that nobody else does? I am clueless lol. Probably because I need to get out more

I don't think my school puts much money into football team. My school's mostly asians. In contrast with the other schools, we got big heads and small bodies, they got big bodies and small heads. I didn't come up with that statement.
I think the school district hates my school. They think the teachers are liars and the previous superintendant (did I spell that correctly?) wanted to close down my school. All because our CAT6 scores are the highest in our city. I think we get the least funding, too. And a lot of our stuff are hand-me-downs from other schools in the city... I think (the names of the other schools are stamped or sharpied on the inside cover, as in "property of _______", same for lots of band instruments).

First off, it came off as far more of a rant than I wanted. IMO, La Jolla has every making of a city and probably the finances as well. They're bigger and have more residents than a lot of Cities and towns in Central CA. My problem is, they want to be acknowledged as a city, but that's it. They Don't want to give up their place on the San Diego City Council, nor do they want to develope thir own council, Police Force, Fire Department. While it's understandable they don't want to do all that, they at least need to earn cityhood by doing things like that before reporting to the Media "the xxx company in la Jolla, California"

Yes, this is what I was saying, people here like everything to be uniqe to them and their area, giving the citizens, cities, and suburbs a very different attitude.

When I was growing up in Virginia Beach, Highschool kids (and many adults) considered it a sign of status to be considered a surfer or be a part of the surfing community. It doesn't matter that the biggest wave in the town is maybe 6 feet after a storm. People went to great lengths to have custom made boards and wear local surf gear (17th street surf shop, WRV, 24th Street surf shop, and a couple of bar shirts from chichos, worrel brothers, harpoon larry's , etc.). It wasn't unheard of for kids to get up early and go surfing before going to school, just like many people go running.

When I think of "San Diego"(and I spend time there every year), I think of Downtown San Diego... I mean sure.. I have a general "feeling" when im in "San Diego"(which is basically anywhere south of Oceanside.. But when I meet up with friends from OC and LA, and discuss meeting in San Diego.. we're all thinking downtown with all the restaurants and bars.

Is there some kind of odd local celebration or quirky tradition that only happens in your town, that might be odd by outside standards, but seems perfectly normal (and reasonable) to the people in your town? If so, tell us what it is.

For New York, I think its parades. Since this is one of the biggest multicultural cities in the world, with sizeable representation of many cultures, you will find parades throughout the year celebrating just about any important feast, holiday or tradition celebrated by any of the myriad of cultures living here. IMO the most unique events are the Thanksgiving Day parade and the lighting of the Rockefeller center Christmas tree. A Christian holiday (Christmas in both counts) celebrated by the most extravagant displays of secular consumerism possible. No matter what your religious or cultural background is, when the balloons come down 5th ave and Broadway, or when the tree is going to be lit, everyone forgets their differences and are united by that one thing all New Yorkers have in common...
