New York (CNN) - Pepper spray can hurt, but online mockery stings for a lot longer.
First, an officer hosed down protestors with pepper spray, now he's getting hosed back, peppered with ridicule for "watering my hippies."
Now he's spraying everyone from Santa to Jesus at the last supper. He's spraying Lassie and he's spraying Snoopy.
He's become what's called a meme, an idea reproducing across the web, even spraying another meme, the keyboard cat.
He's spraying The Beatles on their Sergeant Pepper album; he's spraying to stop the flag raisers at Iwo Jima. His pepper spray replaces the torch on the Statue of Liberty, and he's spraying in famous paintings, at historic moments, at national monuments, and now we know why House Speaker John Boehner cries; he too has been pepper sprayed by the now infamous officer.
His name is Lieutenant John Pike, but he's been tagged with the nickname PepperSpray Pike. That's the name on his fake parody Twitter account, full of bellicose tweets.
"Wanna see the super committee do something? Give me 10 minutes with them in a locked room with spray," said the fake account.

Brave cop pepper sprays handcuffed and unarmed students for the good of his country.

The hacker group "Anonymous" went after Lieutenant Pike by publicizing his phone and address. Someone even created the "Pepper spray cop's lament."
When Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly described pepper spray this way, "It's like a derivative of actual pepper. It's a food product, essentially," she was mocked.
Kelly would probably like to eat her words, as long as they weren't seasoned with pepper spray.
On Amazon.com, critics are writing reviews of actual pepper spray, calling it the "Cadillac of citizen repression technology." Pepper spray is being aimed at old people and the Village People. It's even being shot up Marilyn Monroe's dress.
Anyone care to give thanks for pepper spray on Turkey Day?

What You Should Know About Pepper Spray, The ‘Food Product’ That Can Kill You

Megyn Kelly's claim that pepper spray is "a food product, essentially" has quickly become infamous. Let's take a look at the ways this "food product" fucks people up.

  • Deborah Blum of Scientific American points out that pepper spray is indeed made of capsaicins, the same compounds found in peppers, which are foods. However, the police-grade spray is nearly five and a half times hotter than the hottest known pepper, the ghost chili. This chili has itself been likened to "a cocktail of battery acid and glass shards."
  • UC Davis student David Buscho, who was pepper-sprayed while protesting on Friday, says, "It felt like hot glass was entering my eyes." See a pattern here?
  • Blum also notes that repeated pepper-spray exposure can cause corneal damage. Buscho told the AP, "I had my arms around my girlfriend. I just kissed her on the forehead and then he sprayed us. Immediately, we were blinded ... He just sprayed us again and again [...]"
  • A 1995 ACLU report found that pepper spray was associated with 26 deaths in California between 1993 and 1995 — that is, about 1 in every 600 people sprayed by California cops died. Most had pre-existing conditions like asthma, but the report notes, "these findings suggest that pepper spray may be a serious complicating factor when it is used on people with cardiovascular or cardiorespiratory disease — individuals police might not be able to recognize readily in an emergency situation."
  • The ACLU report cites a 1993 US Army study which found that pepper spray's active ingredient "is capable of producing mutagenic and carcinogenic effects, sensitization, cardiovascular and pulmonary toxicity, neurotoxicity, as well as possible human fatalities."
  • According to Discovery News, pepper spray is banned for military use overseas by the Chemical Weapons Convention, which prohibits the use of "any chemical which through its chemical action on life processes can cause death, temporary incapacitation or permanent harm to humans or animals."

So basically, pepper spray is a "food product" that could cause cancer, eye damage, and/or death, and feels like molten glass in your face. Who wants some?

Happy Thanksgiving and feasting guys and gals.

We already had ours.
CBC
Jean Chrétien tried to play down the RCMP's handling of the demonstrators, joking: "For me, pepper, I put it on my plate." But the controversy dubbed "Peppergate" continues to plague Chrétien and his Liberals four years later.

Can you imagine what that walking donut is and will go through the rest of his life? Yes most will not recognize him without the helmet, but he is going to catch hell for the rest of his life.

I agree the pics are funny, but don't let the funny pictures distract you from the true crime.

The NWO pig peppersprayed a pile of handcuffed hippies. Totally uncalled for. My first thought when I saw this meme go viral was that it was started by one of the PTB agents in order to immediately make an unacceptable occurance become "funny".

It's programming, IMO.

That's an interesting thought! But when I showed the photos to one of my sisters-in-law she was highly offended, which made me offended.

In her mind, cops shouldn't ever be ridiculed like this, and she couldn't even listen to the why of it all. I know, "don't talk to sheeple," etc. etc.

I guess you should have just showed her the original pics of the NWO Pig pepperspraying the defenseless, handcuffed people.

Maybe then she would have been offended for the right reasons.

Awoke, you are probably right about the programming. But damn, some of those images are really funny! I like the baby seal one the best, I think.

She wasn't interested.

A lot of people think the kids deserved it.
