I totally and completely agree. Episode 7 literally left me with goosebumps. What an incredible show, easily the best I've seen in years.

Wow what a roller coaster ride that episode was. I can't even imagine how things are going to progress from here.

The one thing I love about it is every episode I hate the Lannisters more and more. I have never felt this much hate for characters in a TV show before. Hell, I don't think I hate anyone in my day to day life as much as I hate this family.
What an amazing examples of character writing and casting.

I totally agree aside from the dwarf. What an amazing actor, and such a great lannister character. I'll never watch Elf the same way again.

I'm half into it now and... I'm not really impressed.
Too much useless blabla, some even quite ridiculous and predictable. Also it feels like they put some naked wh*res or gay dudes in every episode just because. Not enough is actually happening.

I'll keep watching though. I seriously hope it gets better.

Has anyone else seen it? The first episode was decent, but the second was fantastic. This could really turn out to be a fantastic series.

Watched the first episode on Sky Atlantic last week, and I thought it was good. The second episode airs tonight.

Yep, seen both episodes and it's great. Very well cast and you can tell that a lot of money is being spent to get everything right.

And it's got good company in HBO's lineup because HBO's where all the good TV is at these days. Cable's busy ramming its collective head up its butt with sanitized, highly derivative police/doctor/lawyer garbage and product placements. HBO's got awesome, original programming that remains faithful to its sources and offers tremendous production value.

Yeah you can't really gone wrong with HBO, you know it's going to be quality stuff.

Official "I hate the Lannisters club" will be up shortly, scumbags!

Too bad HBO doesn't have a deal with Netflix like Starz. I'll have to wait until this series comes out on DVD.

Has anyone read the books? I had never heard of this Martin chap until a few weeks ago when the New Yorker ran a story on him. Evidently he has quite a following among fantasy nerds.

I haven't read his series yet. I do own it though http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/blush1.gif. My wife and a few friends have read it. It's the next series on my list. Just finished Wheel of Time and started the Mistborn trilogy. All I know from my wife's description is there is a lot of kinky sex. Sounds great to me.

I watched the 1st episode with 2 friends of mine who are avid fans of the books.
According to them, "it's exactly how they imagined the scenes while reading the books"
and as for me, a viewer without any idea about the whole story.. i thought it was amazing.

You could tell by the set design and production values, this is a QUALITY show.
The only other series i can compare the quality of the props and everything else is Rome, which is IMO probably the best in that department.

I can imagine how most people will be bored or even underwhelmed by the 1st episode, but for me i think it perfectly sets the mood of the whole story, and the world where it revolves around in.

From what i learned from my friends, GoT is not to be expected to be like LoTR in terms of fantasy/magic. It's more concentrated on character development and the politics of the several kingdoms.

Havent seen the 2nd episode yet, just need to go on a trip this week THEN ill get straight to watch it. The 1st episode had such a cliff hanger for an ending.

I was a bit iffy about it during the run up but turned out I really enjoyed the first episode. Hopefully the second episode will continue to entertain me. Sadly though I am working tonight and will miss it so I have to record it. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/sad1.gif

It's probably my favorite of all the fantasy series I've ever read. It feels like he has talent for creating cultures and lands like Tolkien (well maybe not quite to that extent) and he is also a terrific writer. I really like the gritty low(ish) fantasy after reading plenty of goody goody heroic fantasy (*cough* Salvatore). The plot is great too, can really surprise you at times.

All the books are great but I kind of wish I hadn't read them until the series was finished, if it ever does finish. In 2008 he said the next book was nearly done but he ended up in the hospital. Perfectly valid reason but its been three years and he has been well out of the hospital and still nothing. Its looking more and more like this series will be one of the greatest "could've beens."

Good, tidy read that. I rather enjoyed it. There is closure at the end, regardless of anymore that follow, they will be separate.

To wet your appetite, you can head to The Way of Kings afterwards... it is his new series and quite compelling. Sanderson was a perfect author to finish WoT series.


Oh, and as to GRRM's books... well, just a word of warning: Everyone you come to like dies. A rarity in fantasy.

At least toss that with a spoiler tag or white text man.

Meh, that isn't a spoiler. Just realistic. It shouldn't really ever be a spoiler that those who find themselves in peril, often succumb to such peril. If anything it is something GRRM should be lauded for, instead of the invincible hero's throughout the rest of the genre.

My wife warned me of that. She found it both frustrating and enjoyable at the same time. With no one being safe, plots can take turns you don't expect.

I agree but no one probably saw it coming their first read through.
