NEways, as said earlier, not trying to troll at all. Glad you guys got yer new OS after being let down by 4s, I know that sucks :(. Hopefully this will make up for it a little bit. Id like to hear how well Siri works!

1 million pre-orders in 24 hours says differently.

This is exactly what DM was talking about.

Truth be told, many of the iPhone users do not care/have no idea about the new version, except for the fact that it is new.

A pink, cancer, Steve Jobs version of the iPhone 4 (non S) would probably sell similarly.

The number of sales is independent of anything except "new" at this point.

Let's not get too carried away here.

I look around my office and there are numerous people that are making the 4S their first smartphone and others that find it a nice upgrade from the 4.

But yes, there are the (*many*) faithfuls that will do the yearly upgrade, regardless.

What makes you think a "limited edition" iPhone would not sell as well? What do you think the effect of adding Sprint was?

Hell, I am so sick of my PoS phone right now that I am considering going back to an iPhone and away from AT&T and T-Mobile. If I did, I would get the iPhone 4S, that has nothing to do with the awesomeness of the 4S and everything to do with needed a new phone that I believe is the best (and obviously 4S > 4).

Perhaps I am giving too much value to the iPhone goodwill, but you probably aren't giving enough. Meet somewhere in the middle - the "cancer" edition sells 500k! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/cool1.gif

Tried like almost 20 times to get my ipad 2 to update and finally got through! Lovin' the split keyboard but still need to get used to it http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/laugh1.gif

Next to update my 3GS [rofl]

Well the historical data would lie in the sales of the product red iPods and the like. (Which I don't know how well they sold but I rarely see them.)

I will meet half way and say 500k but not on top of the 1 million pre-orders but over time, sure.

I just personally don't understand all the gripe over the 4S. If they called it the iPhone 5, then people being up in arms would be much more understandable.

phsyalcvqh 10-13-2011 08:42 AM

The more I think about it, the more I believe that an "iPhone 4S" - with the same specs as the iPhone 4, but available in different colors and on the Sprint network - would sell about the same. Heavy, the upgrade itch is.

What reason would someone upgrade from an iPhone 4 to this? Earlier models I can understand, since they are aging and at least look different. I understand that it is an upgrade on paper, but why would someone with a perfectly working iPhone 4 do this? Moar new!

Speed and more space, that's why I am upgrading anyway. The iPhone 4 can get slow when using VPN and RDP/VNC. It's the same reason I upgrade my PC. Every little bump is speed is more than welcome.

Fair enough, but do you believe that you could possibly be the exception? And perhaps, like me, addicted to upgrading?

There are many common complaints about the iPhone 4, but speed is certainly not one of them.

Honestly, when I bought my iPad 2 and still had my iPhone 4, you really realize the speed difference.

Bring up the camera, bring up the settings, etc. everything is much faster on the A5.

Understood. Similarly, Coppermine's 5GHz i5 is faster than my 3.6GHz i7, but that does not make my CPU slow. Again, the complaints about the iPhone 4 rarely relate to CPU performance.

Side Note: This is disgusting, but, in the past two hours or so, I decided that I am going to both get a new phone (I need tethering so iPhone might be out) and upgrade my PC. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/tongue1.gif

Right, it isn't slow per say but almost everyone universally will welcome speed increases because it makes the experience better. Less waiting, more instantaneous, which today's society always embraces with open arms.

You could get an iPhone and get tethering like any other phone but it is up to the carrier's discretion whether or not you have to pay for it, which applies to virtually any carrier branded phone out here.

I think for the power user the 4S will provide some nice enhancements. As Mute has said, the A5 chip is very fast, and with the new GPU, games should look stunning. However, I almost feel the last point is kind of moot since the screen is so damn small. For general users I feel the 4 is more than enough to suit their needs. I have until November when I can upgrade to a 4S, so we'll see how the Nexus Prime turns out. If it's a stunner, I'll endure the change of switching to a new OS. If not, I'll probably just pick up Apple's newest offering.

I was actually being honest, but I can see how what I said could be taken differently. I know that the 4s is selling well, but I also know that many wanted a new hardware refresh with 4g ala Iphone 5. Thats what I was trying to say- Sorry you didnt get iphone 5, but at least you got ios5.

Sorry for the confusion.

I'm fortunate enough to have 4G in my area, hence the reason to want a 4G phone. However, there many, many places that do not have it, so for most iPhone users it probably isn't that big of a deal. A bigger screen on the other hand....

I have the same feelings about the iPhone 4S.

The lure of a much bigger screen and the customizability of Android is too strong.

Anyway, ios 5 is running fine on my good old 3GS. Like a swan song for the last 2 months I'd use an iphone.

You have to wait while iTunes restores your apps at the end, even though on the device it looks like it's done.

MaraReenece 10-13-2011 06:57 PM

I don't see the weather ticker on my iPad in notifications but it's there on my iPhone 4 and I can't get iCloud to connect.

The brand new facebook app on iPad has gone a bit flaky as well.
