I didn't know what category to place this, so I put it in "casual topics". To the Mods: Do you think you could make some kind of an "Orthodox Resources" sub-forum, for things like this, and maybe for posting favorite web links and the like? Just an opinion.
So here are my favorites: 1) Daily Readings, published by goarch.org. Free download. Daily Gospel readings, fasting rules, and lives of saints. This is my favorite one, and I've gone through tons of them. I'm the one who pushed the developer to add an ancient Greek translation! ![]() Screenshot: http://a1.phobos.apple.com/us/r1000/...320x480-75.jpg iTunes link: http://itunes.apple.com/app/holy-bible/id291877741?mt=8 3) Ancient Faith Radio. Free download. I really don't like this app, but I thought AFR was popular so I'll post it anyway. Screenshot: http://a1.phobos.apple.com/us/r1000/...320x480-75.jpg iTunes link: http://itunes.apple.com/app/ancient-...322695535?mt=8 That's all I have for now. If I find any more, I'll post them here. Disclaimer: This thread is only for apps related to Orthodoxy. Other apps, like "Angry Birds" and "iFart", although useful, do not belong here. Thank you. |

Thanks for replying Theodora. I have a Kindle as well, and I find it very useful. As per your suggestion, I'll probably get the Orthodox Study Bible for it. I didn't realize the footnotes were there too! And I was just thinking earlier today that I should really get a good bible on the Kindle!
![]() I didn't know AFR has a mobile site. It's probably a ton better than the app - I'll have to check it out. Do you happen to know a place that has the Ladder of Divine Ascent in ebook format? That's my most-desired ebook, but I can't find it anywhere. You would think it would be readily available, seeing as how important it is! I don't know. By the way, my favorite trick for the Kindle is using Instapaper to send articles to it. Have you ever done that? It's awesome. |

Christina, no, I've never used Instapaper. Will have to look into that.
A friend brought the below to my attention several days ago. It's a Project Gutenberg version (public domain) of Orthodox Daily Prayers, originally published in 1982, by St. Tikhon's Seminary Press. This is the edition I use daily. The new (2009 edition) messes with the language too much for me, as I've got prayers memorized in the 1982 translation! There's an ePub, as well as Kindle formats. http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/34981 I wasn't able to get it on my Android phone via the Kindle app. However, I used the Laputa eBook reader to import it into my phone. |

I use the Tsolias Software Greek Orthodox Calendar for iPhone. It is not well laid out, rather inconsistent and puts some things in the "wrong" place, like putting the actual Epistle Reading under "Description" and not under "Epistle Readings", but it does have the readings, shows the appropriate foods to fast from for the day. It lists the major holidays and calculates Pascha through 2049.

For what it's worth, Ancient Faith Radio has a GREAT mobile version of their website for Podcasts...I prefer it much over the app. You can create a shortcut w/ safari to put it on your main app list: http://www.ancientfaith.com/mobile
In fact, I typically use that site, even when on a computer. It's much easier to browse the latest podcasts. |
