Well, they had a good run, but finally gave out. One of the temples busted off at the hinge, no way to fix.
Old glasses Ray-Ban RB 3190 ![]() So I'm checking out some new sunglasses and I think I'm going to get these. Ray-Ban RB 8305 Carbon fiber frames, polarized lenses. What do you all think? Oh, and don't suggest I go with Oakley's instead. I've owned them in the past and won't make that mistake again. |

I haven't worn Oakleys for any extended amount of time. What's bad about them? Simply put, I felt like I got ripped off after purchasing them. |

Just found they weren't worth the money I paid for them. Lenses were weak and easily scratched, frames were nothing more then plastic, and the rubber inserts on the frames started to roll and look bad. Only had them for 6 months before swapping out to my old Ray-Bans that lasted for nearly 4 years. ![]() Gotta admit though, I wouldn't mind new pair of Raybans. Too bad I'm hemorrhaging money at a rate that if it were blood, I'd have been dead weeks ago. ![]() |

You do know that Ray Ban and Oakley are made by the same company? Admittedly with differing target markets, but still the same company.
Those Ray Bans look pretty nice and I would probably go for something similar when looking for every day eyewear, but for sports, in my experience, Oakley glasses just fit the bill. I have 3 pairs of Oakleys, a pair of Zero 0.4 Squared that I've had for 14 years that I bought for athletics, a pair of Big Square Wires that I've had for 9 years and a pair of Jawbones that I've had for 6 months for cycling use. I've replaced the ear pieces on the Zeros and Square wires, and my caustic sweat has stripped the lenses on the Square wires, but I have definitely got value for money from them. In terms of clarity for cycling, the Jawbones are amazing, and before buying them I'd tried Rudy Project, Tifosi and Adidas glasses for comparison. |

There are also a lot of tool manufacturers that fall into the same category. Dewalt, Delta, and Porter Cable are all owned by Black and Decker. And if you gave me the choice between Black and Decker and Dewalt power tools, I would buy Dewalt every time because it is a brand known to be of higher quality. Hell, I couldn't tell you how many Electronic makers have multiple brands of TV's out there. I know there are quite a few. Essentially, you should not compare brands as being equal just because they are owned by the same company. I have a set of Tifosi Slip sunglasses for sports, mainly mountain biking. They are cheaper sunglasses that wouldn't hurt my feelings if they were broken on the trail and have changeable lenses for different light conditions. |
