Quick review: An appalling piece of junk.

It crashes more than Windows by far and has some stupid features (If I restart, it's because something has gone wrong. I don't want you to spend 10 minutes re-opening everything where it was - I'm sure you can change that but out of the box it's annoying). And a few non-features that they have tried a bit of marketing spin on.

Overall a waste of money and I'm going to drop back down to snow leopard before I hurt someone near to me.

A friend of mine who is a HUGE apple junkie had the same things to say. He has already switched back to Snow Leopard...Lost 5 days of work in the process. [cursing]

My annoyance was flipping the lid of the notebook only for the touchpad to not work, the only remedy was to close the lid and open it up again. This may be a technical issue with the notebook though as it is 3 years plus old now.

Pretty funny, I overheard my apple coworkers discussing the exact some thing.

I'm not a OSX user, but I've heard that a lot of people aren't feeling it. I wonder how Apple will react to this feedback.

Probably refuse to acknowledge that anything is wrong, make some updates and push them out and deny that anything ever happened.

It is right as you restart.

It wasn't there today (and isn't every time finder completely crashes). I have to go back to the lock screen and hit restart.

You think they would have learned from Microsoft by now. Do not push out half assed updates (IE windows vista)

The saddest part is: you are exactly right.

Apple have a horrible track record of not owning up to their mistakes and often either blaming it first on consumers, or ignoring the issue all together (if they aren't telling the consumers to ignore it first). Not only that: they are one of the very few companies that never actually apologises to its customers when it does something wrong. Like the iPhone 4 antenna fiasco. Sure, they gave out free bumpers, but if you followed carefully you would've noticed that they never actually released a statement or official apology to consumers. I think this is very odd behaviour for a company that evidently has one of the greatest customer service models in existence.

We are seeing the same mistakes made more often from them now. Looking at Lion, and also not forgetting Final Cur Pro X (or should I say, iMovie pro).

It works fine here on my MacBook Pro, Mac Pro, Mac Mini, another few Mac Pro's and what else we have around.

My first advise is to do a clean install of Mac OS X 10.7 and then report back if problems persists.

Repair permissions and clear PRAM etc.

Did you bother reading the error report?

Did you do any of those or did you just dump Lion on top of your 10 year old train-wreck of an upgraded Mac OS X installation (Tiger -> Leopard -> Snow Leopard and now Lion) ?

It seems you are blowing this topic way out of proportion and the icing on the cake is everyone who is nodding and claiming to have heard similar stories without any first hand experiences to speak of.

Yes, there are issues with certain applications and Lion but if you use it in a professional environment, you should always wait a few months when the smoke have cleared.

You mean, due diligence? Come on, People who use Apple products blindly install anything without first performing testing on it. If it was a Windows update, most companies who rely upon their IT security and stability and release the update to WSUS a few days, weeks, or never.

Regardless, most of the issues I have encountered can easily be rectified by doing a clean install of the operating system.

It's a brand new computer that came with OSX 10.7. Oops, did I turn it on without checking with network support?? Silly me!

I'm not bothered about reading error reports etc, it's just not as good as Snow Leopard. If it was my home computer I'd spend time working out the issues, but it's affecting productivity at work so it's gonna go.

If Apple only provide it as an App Store download to be installed inside the existing OS then they should make sure it can clean up after itself.

I didn't really have a choice on this laptop as it came installed with Lion.

Come to think of it, I doubt I'll be able to downgrade now as the snow leopard discs are for other macs :(

Delays in performance are also getting on my nerves. I've got a brand new i7 2.3GHZ (laptop) with 8GB RAM and when you try to close an unsaved file in textedit there is a two or three second gap between clicking the close icon and the save / discard box appearing. Why?

If you upgrade to the newest firmware, you can wipe the HD and start Internet Recovery, which will reinstall Mac OS X 10.7.

Otherwise I am sure you can obtain Snow Leopard and install that (which will work with your MacBook Pro).

Good and valid questions, for which I have no answer. Do you have an SSD or just a regular hard drive?

I would try to reinstall Mac OS X either way.
