Default 30-40 people dead as plane carrying Russian Hockey Team Lokomotiv Yaroslavl crashes
http://edition.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/eu...html?hpt=hp_t1

Always sad to see loss of life like this. Quite a few talented Hockey Players gone forever as well. Nationalities included Russians, Germans and Swedes

The Russians seem to have a worryingly high proportion of air disasters.

fixed.

There's no way I'd even consider getting on a Russian made plane.

You haven't fixed it at all. I meant that a lot of these air disasters seem to happen in Russia, not just on Russian planes (which admittedly are ****ing junk).

That's what the Russian investigation produced... I don't believe those for even a second.

Can't believe this. It's been the saddest summer ever for hockey. Two suicides, the boogieman overdoses, Henderson has end-stage cancer, and now this. Pavol Demitra was a Canuck not too long ago.

Sad sad sad. [no]

3 of the passengers had ties to the Red Wings. Brad McCrimmon, Ruslan Salei and Stefan Liv.

Salei just had a baby, too.

A sad day indeed. Salei had actually come up and played a few games with the Wings, the new-born makes it even more tragic.

The whole event is very tragic. Stefan Liv, a goalie, is a country man and was extremely loved for his good sportsmanship and passion for hockey. Always joking around, dancing on the ice and treating the fans to that little extra. Sometimes it seems it's the good ones that fall first. I am happy he got to experience winning the Olympics at least, one of the most prestigious tournaments you can win as a hockey player.

RIP to all of the 43 confirmed dead, you will be missed.

for those slamming russian aricraft heres some numbers:

727 - 112 losses from 1831 aircraft built = 6.1%. Tupolev 154 - 39 from 1025 = 3.8%. Boeing 747 - 49 from 1418 = 3.5%, Ilyushin 86 - 0 from 108 = 0%

and the aircraft that came down

YAK 42D production models built 125 number crashed 6 - 4.8%

freelancer - the last crash was pilot error - he was a retrained helicoptor pilot who hadnt actually completed his instrument course (although said he had), read pprune lots of info on there.

Hmm, when I made that comment I had the Polish government air-crash in mind. I still don't trust the Russian government, not while Putin is still alive.
