Take a bit of time to check out the radio stations as well - there's probably 2 or 3 that will meet your needs, especially if it's background music - you shouldn't be 'listening' to it but paying attention to your driving.

Default Recommend me some driving music
Want to get some music for the car, as I'm driving 6-8hrs per week for my work.

Modern rock / pop / alternative type stuff is usually my thing. Not usually pure mainstream stuff, but also nothing too "out-there". Oh, and certainly no (c)rap.

Just getting a bit tired of my current collection and would like to buy some new stuff.

I even feel like I've overplayed by Black Stone Cherry Albums, awesome as they are [thumbup]

I find Jimmy Eat World have a lot of really good driving songs. They are mostly alt. rock with some emo influence, but some really nice melodic tunes to pass the time.

Also, i'd suggest checking out pandora and creting a few stations with artists you like. It plays similar music and you may discover some artists you've never heard before that you really like. I discovered a UK tencho/rock/beat band called Hadouken! that i've taken a liking to recently.

I might recommend a few albums.

Firstly
Amorphis - Beginning of Times

Beautiful and poetic music. Might get some time to get into it, but it's really worth it.
Couple of songs from the album:

You I Need
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rs-or7As0k

Battle For Light
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GMo5nuh250

If you like more mainstream stuff pretty good album is
In Flames - Sounds of a Playground Fading (it's really a shame having to call them mainstream, but that's pretty much what they are nowadays)

Anyway I like the new album even it has nothing on their earlier stuff.

Deliver Us
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTiQ75HY0DA

Fear Is the Weakness
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wc1B5TN1Cjo

And if you like a bit lighter stuff you might like Amaranthine. The first reaction I had when I heard them was "WTF what kind of E-Type goes metal BS is this?"
But then again I liked E-Type and I like metal, so I kinda enjoyed the album.
Amaranthe - Amaranthe

Hunger

Call Out My Name
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yg7igDGPu2Q

If you like powermetall at all, you can't ignore Stratovarius. The guys who maybe have influenced on the power metal scene more than any other band. And they are still going strong even without Tolkki. Their new album is great.
Stratovarius - Elysium

Infernal Maze
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUen6rOlzPw

Event Horizon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r81qJg_Ss9I

Now that I started talking about power metal I just have to mention the new band of Timo Tolkki. Symfonia is kind of a powermetal supergroup having members from Helloween, Angra, Sonata Arctica and Stratovarius. And the album is good as you can expect from the names involved.
Symfonia - In Paradisum

Santiago

Don't Let Me Go

this seems right up my alley, perfect listening while i work [thumbup]
i find it a big necessity for music to be playing while i'm working, or else sleep would definitely take me.
