Default My new pride and joy
Hey peeps, picked this up a couple of weeks back. It's a Golf IV 4Motion 2.8 Liter V6 204 bhp.

So far really happy with it! not the quickest car for sure but it is really smooth and comfortable. Also the interior is really nice with some cool toys like heated leather seats and sunroof.

I love the engine too, it's amazingly quite and has boat loads of torque, feels like any gear it just goes.

Looks a nice one.The engine should be lovely and smooth. 4motion is nice as well. Also, Switzerland is such a stunning country.

Yes now that I have driven the V6, I hope to god I never have to go to a 4 Cylinder engine ever again. The difference in smoothness is just night and day.

I am quite sad though that VWs killed the VR6 engine in the new ones[no]. 4 Motion so far at least in the rain has been great, I am quite looking forward to winter to really test it out

... oh and yes, Switzerland has some stunning landscape, pitty they hold so much hatred towards cars[rolleyes]

My quattro, which must be similar to 4motion, was much better in the snow than 2wd. It keeps the car moving so much better, even with the low profile tyres on. It just got into trouble on the steep inclines, which really were impossible.

Now you really have to do something about that. VR6 and quiet = [no]

Get a new exhaust and it will sound sweet, gives you a few extra horses too

Hahaha don't ever tell an Audi die hard that Quattro is similar to 4 Motion or they might hit you . I have full winter tires though, so I should see some better performance than my previous FWDs, I am not expecting physics laws defiance mind you

Get a new exhaust and it will sound sweet, gives you a few extra horses too Oh don't get me wrong! that's a lot to do with the way I drive (cruise) around town / Motorway. When I want to have fun, it's a matter of clutch+blip+3rd and you can hear that exhaust sing. It is true that an exhaust mod would make it sound MUCH better, but that would mean sacrificing cruise comfort and I am not prepared to do that[no]

I plan on getting a better intake system, but again I want a close system so that it doesn't roar too much in the low-middle low range.

Not a big fan of the car tbh, but damn the landscape in the last 2 pics is awesome, where were those taken ? Sure the car is not for everyone . The landscape pictures are geotagged [yes]

Nice car, congratulations . I've always liked the Mk IV Golfs, they've aged well over the years. Also thats some amazing Swiss scenery. Thanks! I am also a huge fan of the MKIVs; I think that apart from the MKVIs, they are the best looking golf models throughout the generations. Of course that's just me.

This is my 4th MKIV from:

1.6 16v Pacific 105bhp
1.8T 20v GTI 150bhp
2.0 8v GTI 116bhp

That is an awesome configuration. The V6 and 4Motion. Wish we had that in the states.

Sure did!! I have this video in my favourites, it's the same car I have. Keep an eye open at the 9 second mark, he is going in 3rd:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bV0R7PWaFzs

However that's crazy territory, I would have to put upwards 20k to properly do it. I mean you're talking about:

Engine remappings
Turbo/Supercharger kit ot custom (even more expensive)
Gearbox
Clutch
Exhaust
Brakes

And that's just to get it going. You really would then have to do the suspension, reinforce the body ... etc. I will do a project like that once in my life but now I just don't have that kind of money to "invest" [no]

That is an awesome configuration. The V6 and 4Motion. Wish we had that in the states. I was not aware of that. I have seen that you guys have the Golf MKIV VR6 over there, is it only FWD then?. Mind you 4 Motion is great for stability in tricky conditions, but makes the car A LOT slower for 2 reasons

Mechanical Drag
Weight

So I'm guessing a FWD VR6 would be more awesome in terms of acceleration. The one I have is really not much quicker than the 1.8T GTI, I've owned both.

FWD only here. The 1.8T is also a lot more popular than the VR6.

I'm an AWD man myself.
Plus the Golf is already pretty damn light as it is.

Jeremy Clarkson got over 1000 miles in a Jag. Something like a Twin-Turbo V6 diesel was it?

Holy crap, thats a 45 litre tank in your car if memory serves right. I barely manage 600 km and that's on a 60 litre tank [rofl] ....and that's driving very economically!. If I put my foot down, it won't make 400 on a full tank

tanks the same size then?? :P

nice car btw Hahaha yeah the tank sizes are a lot different. Still VERY impressive, remember he drove with all the gadgets he could switch on as he wanted to run out of petrol close to his home; yet he made the distance[surrender]

And on top of that you surely would need forged insides for the engine, meaning a full rebuild basically.

Definately not cheap. I know as I'm doing something like that atm [thumbup]

R32

the 1.8T is really popular around here because it is easier to get a decent amount of power out of it then the VR6 mostly due to the chips from companies like APR

but if you really want to go big a VR6T is not to be messed with lol, friend of mine has a turbo vr6 golf and its just insane
