Default BitCoin mining
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitcoin

Anyone doing this? I started looking into this last night, and according to the hash rate I generate if I was to buy a 5850 for Ģ115 and put it in my spare rig and leave it on for a month 24/7 at a hash rate of 225 it'll take 2 months to make that money back.. oh and take out the electricity bill so probably 2.5 months.... I'm unsure about this

I've been looking in to it too. Not sure whether to try it or not. The exchange rate is so volatile it could all be worth nothing tomorrow.... It's interesting though. I'm going to do more research in to it.

I read about this on hardocp.com and starting mining 2 days ago. I don't have an amd/ati card yet though, so with my nv460 and nv470 I've earned about .18 Bitcoins. Which at today's current value is worth about $2.47

I'm picking up a 5770 tomorrow and have a 5830 on order. Those should generate about 4 to 5 times what I can do with my 2 nvidia cards. So.. I might be able to make about $4-$5 a day. So $120 to $150 a month. I don't pay for power. In one month I could pay for the 5830 and I'm getting the 5770 used, so another 2 weeks to pay for it. If I can make enough to pay for the cards before the bitcoin value plummets, I'll have just got me 2 free video cards. If I don't make the money back, at least I have 2 cards and maybe some money towards them.

I'll see what happens.

Thatīs the jumping point right there.

There is an online calculator you can use to type in your computer specs and KWPH cost and see if it is worth doing for you. This is one of those things that only pays off in volume and of fast components. What I looked into didn't seem worth it to me for my power cost and for the fact it'd have to be up 24/7.

Neat concept though.

Yeah I looked in to it but it's not worth doing now. The difficulty of computing the bitcoins keeps increasing = lower return for your investment. Plus the massive hack of the bitcoin exchange website put me off. Too volatile and risky
