Muscles twitching question.
Hi guys, over the past month or so i've been really stressed and full of anxiety. (I wont go into details)http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/blush1.gif
This all came to a head Thursday last week, all of a sudden my right tricep would twitch constantly, then when that subsided(slighlty) i noticed small random twitches all over my body from my leg muscles, fore arms shoulders to abs, not all at the same time i might add. I then went to my doctors and he wasn't much help because he didn't know what it was going on, so he sent me to have some blood tests done. Then I rang up my Neurologist( For my Epilepsy), she wasn't sure whats going on either, so i've been put on the waiting list to see her boss. I've browsed the web and it's come up with stress and anxiety, but the pessimistic person in me says it could be something more[thumbdown]. Any ideas guys? |
When your muscle twitches involuntary it's usually just a trapped nerve, but if your getting that all over then I'd consider seeing a specialist to have it properly looked at.

Also consider whether you could be dealing with a side effect of your antiepileptics if you are on any, but either way you need to be seen by a neurologist given your history. Finally, if you experience any loss of sensation or funny feeling, changes in mental status (having trouble speaking, memory issues, etc), your symptoms get worse, or have any loss of consciousness or hallucinations, you should seek medical help right away. |
Considering you have epilepsy things might be a little more serious/different.
I get muscle twitches/spasms occasionally, but it's usually due to caffeine, electrolyte imbalance, not enough potassium, dehydration, etc. |
It's free exercise, don't mess this up for yourself.

I get these all the time when i'm stressed. But its always a single muscle, same tick every time. Sometimes it'll go on for hours. I've gone through days at work and had a facial tick, usually eye muscles do it. Sometimes its in my bicep, other days it'll happen in my thigh. Never had it in my abdominal muscles, or back.
For me its stress (not that constant stress is good for you). But if they are frequent and occurring in multiple places simultaneously I'd say its time to see a doctor. My twitches may last for a nearly full work day, but I usually only experience them once in a few months. |
My right bicep is twitching atm, has been since yesterday. Although my twitches and body(/or part) jerks, are from my stroke. [thumbdown]
I would possibly have an MRI, just to be safe, because you are DX'ed with epilepsy. Just to rule out an lesions, minor bleeds, etc... |
Dave,
About three years ago I too was under some pretty serious stress and something similar afflicted me. I had some heart issues which manifested from the stress and my pectoral muscles started to twitch frequently. This occurred for months, possibly even an entire year, but it eventually went away. I have no data on this, but I can tell you the conclusions I personally came to. My stress was focused on my chest because I was afraid of having a cardiac episode of some sort. It seems that I induced these twitches because of where my attention was focused. Perhaps you're having a similar issue but the locations are random as you're not particularly worried about something physically in your body. See someone if you're worried of course, but hopefully this has brought some consolation to you. It was odd when I read this, I suddenly realized I don't have those twitches anymore. I hadn't encountered a situation up until now that prompted me to think about it. Think positively, exercise when you can, try to eat well, and do your best to remove whatever stress you can from your life. Good luck. |

Those are two of the biggest words I hate in the medical profession. Nothing against you, but I hate the "It's all in your head mantra" I still think you should take it a little more seriously, especially with the DX'ed Epilepsy Dave. |

Seriously, just wait for the result from the experts. Looking at pages filled with stuff that might or might not be the case will just unsettle you [no] Just think of it this way: how many ppl that are fine post that on blogs and forums? |
Thanks for all of your replies guys greatly appreciated.
I've stopped looking on the web now btw.http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/tongue1.gif |
