Recruitment is probably second only to estate agents in terms of dodgyness. We support a few recruitment agencies at work and there is one company that seems to be forever hiring people that work for rival recruitment companies. So whenever they think people aren't looking, they are emailing people's details back to their old companies.

Thats a shocking term imo. Remind me of when I heard the term "central registration office". Turns out it was the postroom.....
There are lots of different sorts of recruitment companies - it all depends on the business model. Generally the "worst" recruitment companies are the ones that are either hiring for perm roles at client (meaning they simply get a 1-time perm fee from the client and have no employment responsibilities), or are hiring contractors on a freelance non-binding basis (old-style "contractor" approach).. These companies tend to attract wide-boy idiots that only operate on a short-term basis, and are only looking for where they can get their next commission payment from. And yes, I work in recruitment. I'm a business manager responsible for 115 employees working onsite at a major client here in The Netherlands. The difference is that we hire all our personnel as permanent staff members. They are my colleagues in just the same way that my internal team-members are. We recruit for high-level engineering positions in the aerospace sector, and I have employees that have been working for us at clients for more than 15 years. When you are hiring people permanently, and working with client on a long-term basis it requires a completely different outlook, business model, considerations and approach. The only problem is that you still tend to get lumped in with the cowboy outfits that don't give a sh1t. ![]() |
