Result - I get my car tomorrow!

Been in The Netherlands for almost 9 years, and not had a car during that whole time. I've been able to have one through work, but did not bother as it was unnecessary.

Now with a baby on the way I've decided to get one sorted.

VW polo Bluemotion 1.2 will be delivered tomorrow. I could have picked something better, but this one is very cheap via my salary tax.

Can't wait to be fully mobile again after all these years! [thumbup]

Nice! The bluemotion range of engines give a crazy return in mpg, just as well given the current price of fuel...especially diesel.

Company fuel card. Never have to pay for business OR private fuel again http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/wink1.gif

Ummmm... That's a rather small car. Those safety seats (whatever you call them) for babies take quite a bit room.
Our old primary (now it's wife's car) car Opel Astra G Hatchback front seat was totally unusable because the babyseat required so much space in the backseat.
In our current primary Nissan Primera P12 Estate/Wagon it's not a problem.

Nice car you got there though!

One of my workmates has the same car - he said he had no problem getting a baby-seat in the back, and a stroller in the trunk.

Well the new Polos are quite a bit bigger than they used to be. They just did a Old vs. New VW GTi test in finnish magazine. It featured the first Golf GTi and new Polo GTi. The Polo was a lot bigger and heavier.

Well I guess the price of fuel is of no immediate concern to you then!

And yeah the new Polo's are larger and imo much better looking now too. They look like slightly miniturised Golfs now.

Indeed - I was surprised how big it is. I still have an old-school view of Polos being tiny....

The blue motion Polo's do look pretty smart because they're made to be aerodynamic and light, the alloys and body styling make them look quite sporty. Quite expensive for a Polo, but a good company car.

Sotmoigma 05-27-2011 01:59 AM

So my first reply was pointless.

You see, that's why my current sig is rather accurate. Think before you post man, think!

I have a Ford Escort and a 2 year old. I am happy we are no longer driving the thing. Way too small, and exterior wise it is bigger than that Polo.
I just hope that you do not end up wishing that you had a larger car.
As far as the stroller fitting, yes it will fit, but that is about all that you can get into the trunk of the escort if the stoller is back there.
Its really only bad for the first 1yr~2yr depending on how fast your kid develops, but if your going to be making a 2nd kid, your totally going to want bigger.

We upgraded to a Buick LeSabre and we still want higher off the ground. Gotta wait till more income though because we already have the Jeep that will fix that, but it gets 14mpg.

There is no way I could afford to run my car if I was paying for it. Private lease, servicing, diesel, tyres and insurance would come to about a grand a month I reckon. To be honest I'd be happy with something smaller but as the car is part of my overall salary package I feel a bit cheated if I don't use it all.

XqrkN4a0 05-27-2011 04:00 AM

I worked out my car costs about £7500 a year including every last thing to do with the car. I also worked out this Polo would cost me just over £5k, sometimes I have nothing better to do. But that's my circumstances. The big saving is obviously fuel. Just don't tell anyone you car has a 3 cylinder diesel engine.

Why not? I drive a 4 cylinder diesel (2010 Golf TDI) in the states and am quite proud of it. I get a kick out of people's responses when I tell them the kind of mileage I get.

Civilrecordzz 05-27-2011 10:51 AM

VW Polo Bluemotion huh. I'd rather buy a bicycle. Seriosuly.

Sotmoigma 05-27-2011 12:21 PM

Having a baby onboard reduces the urge for high rev launches, crazy overtakes and so on.

VW Bluemotion is sensible choice.
Yes you can have much more fun with bicycle but it doesn't carry as much shoppings.

Seriously, quit copying me. I have baby, you have a baby. I get a new car, you get a new car. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/tongue1.gif

That thing gets crazy gas mileage. 75 HP is a little low in terms of drive-ability though, even for a diesel. As long as you never have to overtake anyone, you'll be fine [thumbup] We just purchased a new Opel/Vauxhaul Zafira 1.8i. We have a Labrador Retriever, so we need the extra space.

I didn't think they even did the diesel models over there!

As for the mocking, it was because of the number of cylinders (3), not the fuel used.

Ygxejxox 05-27-2011 05:42 PM

I hope its a 4 door our Almera is a 2 door putting the niece and nephew in the back is a serious pain in the ass.

Our car doesnt cost much a year -

£260 insurance fully comp
£30 m.o.t
Tax is free

So apart from petrol the car costs us under £300 a year though im probly gonna buy some new tyres this year so the cost will rise for this year.
