Been in The Netherlands for almost 9 years, and not had a car during that whole time. I've been able to have one through work, but did not bother as it was unnecessary.
Now with a baby on the way I've decided to get one sorted. VW polo Bluemotion 1.2 will be delivered tomorrow. I could have picked something better, but this one is very cheap via my salary tax. Can't wait to be fully mobile again after all these years! [thumbup] |

Ummmm... That's a rather small car. Those safety seats (whatever you call them) for babies take quite a bit room.
Our old primary (now it's wife's car) car Opel Astra G Hatchback front seat was totally unusable because the babyseat required so much space in the backseat. In our current primary Nissan Primera P12 Estate/Wagon it's not a problem. Nice car you got there though! |

Well the new Polos are quite a bit bigger than they used to be. They just did a Old vs. New VW GTi test in finnish magazine. It featured the first Golf GTi and new Polo GTi. The Polo was a lot bigger and heavier. |

I have a Ford Escort and a 2 year old. I am happy we are no longer driving the thing. Way too small, and exterior wise it is bigger than that Polo.
I just hope that you do not end up wishing that you had a larger car. As far as the stroller fitting, yes it will fit, but that is about all that you can get into the trunk of the escort if the stoller is back there. Its really only bad for the first 1yr~2yr depending on how fast your kid develops, but if your going to be making a 2nd kid, your totally going to want bigger. We upgraded to a Buick LeSabre and we still want higher off the ground. Gotta wait till more income though because we already have the Jeep that will fix that, but it gets 14mpg. |

There is no way I could afford to run my car if I was paying for it. Private lease, servicing, diesel, tyres and insurance would come to about a grand a month I reckon. To be honest I'd be happy with something smaller but as the car is part of my overall salary package I feel a bit cheated if I don't use it all.

I worked out my car costs about £7500 a year including every last thing to do with the car. I also worked out this Polo would cost me just over £5k, sometimes I have nothing better to do. But that's my circumstances. The big saving is obviously fuel. Just don't tell anyone you car has a 3 cylinder diesel engine.

Seriously, quit copying me. I have baby, you have a baby. I get a new car, you get a new car.
![]() That thing gets crazy gas mileage. 75 HP is a little low in terms of drive-ability though, even for a diesel. As long as you never have to overtake anyone, you'll be fine [thumbup] We just purchased a new Opel/Vauxhaul Zafira 1.8i. We have a Labrador Retriever, so we need the extra space. |

Why not? I drive a 4 cylinder diesel (2010 Golf TDI) in the states and am quite proud of it. I get a kick out of people's responses when I tell them the kind of mileage I get. As for the mocking, it was because of the number of cylinders (3), not the fuel used. |

I hope its a 4 door our Almera is a 2 door putting the niece and nephew in the back is a serious pain in the ass.
Our car doesnt cost much a year - £260 insurance fully comp £30 m.o.t Tax is free So apart from petrol the car costs us under £300 a year though im probly gonna buy some new tyres this year so the cost will rise for this year. |
