Lord, grant that Marshal Wade,
May by thy mighty aid,
Victory bring.
May she sedition hush,
and like a torrent rush,
Rebellious Scots to crush, (ROFL!)
God save the Queen.
Awesome.[thumbup]

What happens to combined things like the Army bases and the like ?
What happens with things like oil and the situation where Scotland gets more money per head than England?
What happens with currency and border control?

The whole idea of Scotland not being part of the UK is stupid, benefits barely any one and is a waste of time.

What bugs me is the current Situation where Wales has its own parliament, Scotland does yet England has no representation... When England and Scotland joined to create the UK all those years ago representation for both countries was disbanded and Westminster was formed to represent the United Kingdom. Now in Wales and Scotland these have been reformed yet we in England have nothing to represent our own interests. All of us should be looking towards Westminster for representation of the entire UK.

Simply put currently Scotland gets the best of both worlds with additional funding from the UK Government and the power to change many things effecting its own local interests, why would anyone give that up?
on another forum all the scottish people got angry when the english people on that forum said.

scotland can leave aslong as
they walk away with the fair share of the UK debt.
wont be protected by our army.
wont have the pound currency.
wont have all of the oil and gas because it belongs to the shetland islands if anyone and if scotland wants idependance the same goes for the shetland islands who can take the oil with them

all the pro independance scottish people are living in some dream world where they think everyone would be exactly the same as it is now but scotland would get 100% of the north sea oil and gas taxes which is never going to happen

No. The same reason Wales won't. They can't afford to. Although Scotland's economy is much better than Wales's, Scotland still can't rely on themselves. England is practically subsidising their freebies (tuition fees etc).

However, because of that, I'm all for them both (and NI) being on their own. Watch them all sink [yes]

I'd like to see them on their own. Like russ said, they take advantage of the rest of the UK propping them up. They'd never let anything pass if it advantages England either.

Perhaps if they did it back in the Seventies, with the oil revenue...
Now it'd be a big mistake IMO - and I was a strong SNP advocate from when that idiot Heath sold Britain out to get into the EEC - if he'd held out for better terms, like Wilson did, everyone would have been better off.

I can't see them doing it, last time I saw a poll only 40% of Scots were for it.

But if they do leave, it brings up a whole load of other problems. I assume they would want to join the EU because they would need the support to survive. But then would a country like Scotland be able to join at the moment as they would likely be a drain on EU resources (don't forget we pay a few billion every year to the EU which a lot of it goes to poorer countries to help improve infrastructure etc). Plus you have the whole Euro problem if they were to join, where goods in the UK would be a lot cheaper (Ireland has the same problem where a lot of people go shopping in N.Ireland because it is cheaper).

Also, what would happen with RBS? They're almost completely owned by the UK government. I'd assume it would be percentage based on taxpayers in UK:Scotland.

Can we not cut Scotland and Wales away from our sacred land and let the buggers float away?

You're still upset about 1715 and 1745, aren't you?
I bet you know the words to the last verse of the (English) national anthem, don't you - the one they're afraid to use any more?

I'd give it 6 months before they'd all be crawling over the border, the entire countries supply of WKD and fried food having been consumed.

Given the increasing economic and political irrelevancy of the UK in the world, Scotland is better off seceding in the long run. No need for a referendum. They should just get on with it.

Based on what? Considering we have an economy comparable to other European countries and we're heavily involved in pretty much everything political, whether it be a war or whatever, I don't know what you're on about. Anything to put the UK down though I suppose.

I honestly don't think it matters what government is nominally in charge - we're all freewheeling at the moment trying to pluck up the courage to admit that the fuel tank is low and the engine is stuttering.

And everyone is expecting someone else to pay the fuel bill!

there are a lot of military bases and training area's in Scotland that support the local economies.

2 are closing down due to defense cuts.

and I think more will be drawn back over the boarder if the Scots wants to go on their own.

Scotland will never truly split from the UK, although I wish they would so that were not burdened by them and have them meddle in our affairs when we cant meddle in theirs pay them moneys when they give nothing back, and have to listen to them moaning about everything like a hard done by sibling.
