What happens to combined things like the Army bases and the like ? scotland can leave aslong as they walk away with the fair share of the UK debt. wont be protected by our army. wont have the pound currency. wont have all of the oil and gas because it belongs to the shetland islands if anyone and if scotland wants idependance the same goes for the shetland islands who can take the oil with them all the pro independance scottish people are living in some dream world where they think everyone would be exactly the same as it is now but scotland would get 100% of the north sea oil and gas taxes which is never going to happen |

the SNP have totally blown everyone away - and there is now talk of seceding - will they break the united kingdom? However, because of that, I'm all for them both (and NI) being on their own. Watch them all sink [yes] |

I can't see them doing it, last time I saw a poll only 40% of Scots were for it.
But if they do leave, it brings up a whole load of other problems. I assume they would want to join the EU because they would need the support to survive. But then would a country like Scotland be able to join at the moment as they would likely be a drain on EU resources (don't forget we pay a few billion every year to the EU which a lot of it goes to poorer countries to help improve infrastructure etc). Plus you have the whole Euro problem if they were to join, where goods in the UK would be a lot cheaper (Ireland has the same problem where a lot of people go shopping in N.Ireland because it is cheaper). |

Given the increasing economic and political irrelevancy of the UK in the world, Scotland is better off seceding in the long run. No need for a referendum. They should just get on with it. ![]() I honestly don't think it matters what government is nominally in charge - we're all freewheeling at the moment trying to pluck up the courage to admit that the fuel tank is low and the engine is stuttering. |

there are a lot of military bases and training area's in Scotland that support the local economies.
2 are closing down due to defense cuts. and I think more will be drawn back over the boarder if the Scots wants to go on their own. Scotland will never truly split from the UK, although I wish they would so that were not burdened by them and have them meddle in our affairs when we cant meddle in theirs pay them moneys when they give nothing back, and have to listen to them moaning about everything like a hard done by sibling. |
