SETI is closing down
I am certain there is much outrage over this, but I just can't muster up a bit of energy to care. It has been running for ~30 years without a nary of worthwhile data. While I certainly think it possible that life exists, seti was never going to be effective imo, as it is the search for a needle in the infinite cosmic haystack. Not to mention, I am with Hawkins... any alien life form there is I probably don't want to meet. It is only 2.5 mil a year, so SETI can certainly find private funding to keep them going if there is any interest among the masses... but after 30 years of nothing, I am no longer interested.

thank god

Now on to properly funding a REAL worthwhile cause...YETI.

but after 30 years of nothing, I am no longer interested. i was never interested in the "find aliens" bit, it was constructing a supercomputer out of dustry old pc's that interested me. that was far more interesting then analyzing radio signals.

F@H is a waste of time IMO.. I don't think they've produced any useful data up until now, but i could be wrong.

I am no biology expert (I'll leave that up to CB after he reads the Wiki on "biology") but, this link lists a whole shitload of stuff that I do not understand but looks important. |

So the world's longest and largest cosmic game of hide and seek ends. We give up aliens... you can come out now! [rofl]

I didn't know it could be used to discover space debris, that is a much more useful and something people would be both willing to donate cpu power and money to.

Are some of you guys confusing CETI with SETI?
I think CETI shutting down may be a very good idea - why yell out "Hey, here we are, come and get us" http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/wacko1.gif However, I think SETI should continue as if there's an intelligence out there that may be able to visit us, I'd definitely like a "heads up" to prepare the world for them - you certainly don't want the first communication to be a Vogon Construction Fleet, do you? |
Meh... Just grab onto a black rapper and he will hitchhick you out of this planet.

the ATA is `going into hibernation`
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum...d.php?id=63888 BUT it doesnt effect seti@home, they actually use a different array for data and one thats actually more sensitive - in a way the 42 telescope ATA `going to sleep` may be a good thing , as the link says if it was a 350 telescope array it would be `great` but @ 42 it takes longer to scan the sky than the seri@home aracebo |

I think it´s sad, you know even if the chances were slim to begin with i always thought it was an amazing project.
I wonder what Jil and Seth are gonna do now ? http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/sad1.gif |
