It's so much easier to get it wrong in an auto. You've no clutch to give you a biting point so if you accidentally select the wrong position on the auto box you won't know until you go flying.
I remember as a kid my grandad had some big automatic car and we parked up at a market as he wanted to but a pig (I can't remember why, and I can't think of any sensible reason that he'd want one). He went off and after a while curiosity got the better of me so I tried moving the shifter towards drive from neutral (car was stopped, engine off etc) and it lurched forwards into the wall about 2 inches away. I put it back where it was and decided that honesty wasn't in that case the best policy lol. |
