My friends Cat, who she had for 15 fifteen years, has just been killed by their neighbours dog, a pit bull terrier.
My friend went out to bring her cat in when i heard her start screaming "Let my cat go! Let it go!" So i ran to the back garden and she was there trying to drag the dog off, it had the whole head in it's mouth with the cat claws stuck in it's face, so i ran over and tried my best to get the thing off, i think i may have broken a knuckle hitting it, i even hit it with a metal pole and it still wouldn't let go, i tried prising it's mouth open but i had to stop after it turned on me, by which time the cat was dead. A bit shook up right now, my friend is obviously devastated, i did shout at her to get in and ring the Police, mainly so she didn't have to stand there and watch it all, finally managed to get her cat wrapped up in a blanket and brought her in from the garden, so yea, a bit upset right now, more upset at seeing my friend so distraught, but also because i couldn't stop it, she was alive when i got out there, but even after 3-4 minutes of trying, i just couldn't get it off. ****. Her family are with her now. |

Harsh story, but pit bull terrier types are well known cat killers unfortunately, cat's might be quick and wise to keep away from dogs, but if a terrier of that size gets hold of them, they are pretty much screwed...
![]() Obviously also an idiot dog owner that has trained the dog for it's worst traits, rather than their better ones. Even pit bulls can make friendly and obedient dogs given the right training. |

I tried, more difficult than you think on the spare of the moment, trust me i was the same way, but even with a steel bar i still couldn't knock it out or hurt it, they are solid as rock and appeared almost impervious to what i was doing, i was slick with sweat afterwards from the effort i put it, it's bite must be unreal, it crushed the cats head completely. The one time i would have liked to own a gun. A friend of mine was attacked by a pitbull while he was working on a roof,he had just started to climb the ladder and it attacked him,he sunk a claw hammer in to the damn things ribs and it ran off and died. Generally speaking,I do not hate pit bulls, just the bad owners who usually get them and do not watch them around small animals. |

Obviously a bit too late, but this is a decent tip :-
If a dog has locked onto another animals' neck, or human limb, pick it's back legs up and hold it in the air. This prevents it from pulling, ripping and causing any more damage. Put a cloth over the dogs head. This can make them let go. Spray the dog with a strong jet of water or air spray. http://www.wikihow.com/Handle-a-Dog-Attack |

Why the hell do people insist on owning pitbulls? Other breeds are responsible for more attacks in general, but for some reason the media fixated on pit bulls. I don't know why. ![]() ![]() |

There is nothing bad about pitbulls, its the owners that turn them in to junk yard dogs. |

Dogs naturally attack cats, like most cats will kill and chase birds and mice. Maybe cat's should not roam the neighborhoods. Dogs get out. Wanna keep you cat safe, keep it inside. If I had a pet bird that was attacked and killed by a roaming cat, what would be said? That cat owner is a terrible person? I doubt it. Nope, my guess is, I would be told I should have kept the bird in a safer environment than a perch in my backyard. Sorry for the cats loss, and I am certain it was traumatic (been there), but dogs hate cats. Not because their owners are bad, but for the same reason lions hate hyenas. |

My dog chases after everything, deers, birds, rabbits, other dogs, even people, but it doesnt snap at it or tries to bite its head off clean. It does so out of curiosity. Why? Because she gets spoiled with a lot of care, attention and love and i disciplined her.
Any dog can snap or kill if you constantly abuse it. My friends husband used to punch a pitbull in the stomach for fun, and he would say that the pitbulls can take it and thats why they are so strong. The dog bit him at one point and had to be taken away from him. Cats chase after birds and small things to kill it and eat it. Dogs dont try to kill and eat everything. |

Pitbull are on the UK banned dogs list i hope you remind the police of this.
I think they must give Staffies away with packets of corn flakes, the main problem with them is there usualy very dog aggresive. My Akitas a big softy but im pretty sure if a cat came into our garden it would probly end up dead due to the dogs hunting instincts. |
