Text messaging customers the 'daily deal'...

I'm curious how one would go about setting up a service like newegg has, where customers who wish to participate, can send a text into a number and sign up to receive a daily text telling them of the deals we have. Anyone have any experience with a service like this?

I get emails with daily deals from a store and you can just click on it and buy it with your account. Doesn't everyone have smart phones with email capability these days?

yea, just about everybody does... But think about how people react to texts compared to e-mails... I feel like people are going to be much much more likely to notice and read a text rather than an email.

Well I guess.. Anyways there are companies that provide the service you are looking for, they are called bulk SMS providers.

We've set up a few of these via bluetooth and / or SMS. They are relatively inexpensive. You're normally looking at around £500 to £1000 for setting up the system in the first instance and then about 3p or 9p a text after that (the cheaper ones are routed outside the UK and are less reliable).

The biggest problem you will face is getting a list of phone numbers together that have approved you to message them.

Just to add to this... when buying the list don't skimp on the $$ make absolute sure it is a certified list. Some delivery services will void/ban your account if more than X% of the messages bounce back as non-deliverable. This is how they cut spam.

I know from experience.

Well this will be in the states here. But what i'm shooting for is adding to some of our advertising that if they want to receive a daily text, to text number 12345 with keyword blahblah, which would either auto sign them up or at least tell us that it's ok to sign them up for it.
We're NOT looking to just send a mass text to a random group of people.

If you can wait until tomorrow I'll find out who we partner with in the states for these things and give you the contact details.
