Insurance offered me £2800 originally. I sent a great deal of cars which had a £4300-£5000 price which were near identical to mine and managed to get them up to £3200 offer. Is there anything else i can do since i wanted at least £3500?
Any further advice is appreciated! |
What is the book price of your car? you'll be unlikely to get more than that. When you renewed your insurance, did you have to give a value of your car? i know i did.
Looks like you can pick then up from about £2.5k but it seems like £3.5k to £5k is more the ballpark. |
I think they wrote it off because its a ford, and not because of the damage :)
in all fairness though that car is probably only worth £5,000 at the most |
Find the blue book value and attempt to collect a list of similar cars with similar condition and mileage to negotiate further.
Then take the settlement, then try and buy the car back and sell for parts, you could make a few grand on Ebay if you rip off the most sought after items and flog them. Or you could just sell it for spares or repairs as long as the buyback value is low enough to warrant this. |
most insurance companies , when the car is under £6k , actually look at the second hand market and advertising to see how much they are selling for an make an average, so check autotrader etc

Claim she has whiplash and get enough to buy the next model up.......

now a question - how `big` a lorry was it , and when did the contact occur?
was it a 42 ton tractor+ trailer? as the back would push out to the right when he turned to the left to exit. |
I was in an accident 2 weeks ago, guy ran a red light, hit me and a mini van, then flipped 3 times after he hit us. My daughter and I were on our way back from an animal shelter and had a pup in the car. luckily it was in her lap and she was holding him. My car was totaled so was the mini van. We had witnesses and the guy's father said it wasn't his fault that we ran a light but wouldn't let his son speak to insurance adjuster. Finally got my check today. [thumbup]
My totaled car, I loved this car was cheap to drive and never had a problem in 4 years. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...in/saturn1.jpg Picking up 2010 mazda 3 on Saturday. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...in/mazda3b.jpg And our lucky pup that had a rough first day with us. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...vin/dexter.jpg |

To the OP, probably an obvious question which you may already know the answer to but were there any CCTV cameras near the roundabout that may have filmed the accident? |
Find out what those cars are going for in good shape with similar mileage. If they try to lowball you then present them with the ads showing the going rate. You should get fair market value.

Insurance want to write off my car =( Help me make sure i get a good deal!
My girlfriend was driving my 2005 Ford Mondeo which was well looked after and an excellent drive. Whilst driving she and a lorry with a big wagon thing on the back approached a roundabout they both went onto the roundabout at approx the same time and were both going straight on.
Whilst going round the lorrys back end crushed her into the middle isle and caused a crash it is totally his fault but no witnesses and he was not admitting liability. http://www.boxrick.com/crash2.jpg Insurance has declared it as a write off (£4300 of repairs... wah) Simply put i need some advice here! Id rather get my car repaired than written off but it clearly is not in a good shape. I don't use it that often so am happy to buy an older car, thinking of a Nissan Almera. Can anyone give me some advice regarding getting the best deal, i want the most money for my car or totally avoid it getting written off and some sort of cost to the repairs. Since at the end of the day it is still MY car. Other things to note, i only just MOT'd and Taxed it last week and renewed insurance in december. |
The damage may not be just what's visible, so my advice would be is just get a new car.
Since you live in Europe, you don't have access to anything nice, so I can't really advise on what to get. |
well, it doesn't look too bad off... 2 doors and front fender? If all the damage is visible and there are no structure damages we can't see, then you need to shop around and see what it will take to repair the damage and then start negotiating with you insurance company. You will not get all 4300 if you retain possession of the the vehicle but I surmise you can get 3700-4000, which if you shop around should be plenty for repairs.

Make sure there is no structural damage and other damage that can not be seen.
Wife car was in an accident, got it fixed and near the end the mechanic noticed $200 worth of more repair. Thankfully he fixed it for free. As far as getting the best deal, you really can't. The insurance will either give you a check to fix it, or to pay for it. Our insurance is, if damage is 75% of the value of the vehicle, they total it and jus cut you a check for the value of the vehicle. So either use that money to fix, or get something new. Your kinda at the mercy of your insurance provider here. What you can do though if they total out your vehicle, is to make sure that the value they give you for it is in line with the market value. If it is lower then the market value and you prove it with some dealer quotes they might end up increasing your payment. |
telling by the way the door and the fender are bent against the a-pillar i'd guess ur pillar is in a good bit , so yea take the check =)
(btw im an appraiser for a body shop) |
Agreed, lower front area of the "A" pillar could be damaged - a good repair shop may fix it, but it won't be perfect.
You may have an option to buy the car back from the insurance company (last write off I had they just gave me the car), so if you have the right contacts, you may be able to get it preoperly repaired and still come out ahead. |

If Parallel with a Lorry coming upto a roundabout, I always slow down now and let them go around first, because even if in separate lanes the Lorries back end always swings over into your lane, If I can get round first though, by speeding up, then that's an option too, but only if I can do it and not look like a Tw@t. |
I never really understood the idea behind a roundabout. Wouldn't it just be easier to have a four way stop?
