im going blind
 

Just woke up this morning with my left eye blurry, been awake nearly 2 hours and it still not cleared up. [thumbdown]

Any ideas what it could be, before i go looking on the net to tell my i've got an eye tumor or something lol.

How about going to the ER?

P.S.: I'm, hopefully, at the end of my Pneumonioa, that's been dragging for 4.5 weeks. I'm on my second antibiotic, but I've hurt my ribs coughing and it hurts like hell. Pneumonia and hurt ribs is the worst.

Nope not going ER over a blurry eye, it has started to clear up slowly not as bad as this morning now.

I narrowed it down to 3 things it's either

Dry eye clears up itself eventually during the day

or an infection coming on as my left eye has been sore for a couple of days prior, and feels abit werid & kinda sticky without the gunk.

or it's Eye Herps http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/cry1.gif which is basically same virus that gives you cold sores.

If it is either of those 2 it's a trip to the docs for some eyedrops or whatever they give you for it.

Worst is i wanted to do some boxing day shopping, but while my sight isn't 100% im not risking driving.

If it's been getting slowly worse, unlikely to be a detatched retina, pay to get it checked out, though, as it's possible for some infections to cause damage to the cornea, leaving it permanently scarred.
If you don't want to see a doctor, a chemist/pharmasist may have some suitable drops for you.

How much did you drink last night? Give it time.

Mate, it could be a mild infection - but it's impossible for anyone to say over the net/phone... ie without seeing it.

My concerns:

1) could it be some form of infection (early presentation)?
if it is herpetic - then that is ophthalmic shingles/herpes zoster - MEDICAL EMERGENCY in all cases I'm afraid.
Or it could be mild conjunctivitis.

2) Accidental abrasian during your sleep?
Either way - it constitutes a scratch and it is unclear how superficial/deep it is.
Again this can lead to infection and if untreated - possibly an ulcer (bad!)

3) Some form of palsy.
Could be a very mild Bell's palsy which isn't giving you a drooping face but may be causing the ocular symptoms. (Bells phenomenon).
Early presentation is key to full recovery - ie within 24 hrs to start course steroids/antivirals - prognosis much better.
Are your pupils equal and reactive to light? What's the visual range of movement? What's your retina like?

4) I don't know how old you are - have you had a mini-stroke/Transient Ischaemic Attack (unlikely but impossible to rule out without examination/history).



Bottom line mate - I would have a very low threshold when it comes to your eyes.

My advice - see a Dr.
Pain in the arse I know, especially over the christmas period.
But rather he/she say - it's a simple infection - here are some drops - see your own GP in 3-4 days...
... than "why didn't you come earlier?" You have a corneal ulcer and will leave some scarring, BTW - you have to take these antivirals 5 times per day for one week, and these eye drops every 1-2 hrs plus ointment in the night!! Wear this patch, take time off work, don't drive, blah, blah, blah.



I telephone triage a lot of patients - If I came across that history/presentation in one of my patients - I would tell them to see a Dr.

I'm quite paranoid about my eyesight and hearing, as once they're damaged I'm stuck with it - but seem to be quite careless with the rest of it.

im 34 & pretty healthy

There full movement in my eyes and the pupils open in darkness & close in bright light.

My eye feels kinda dry & slightly sticky but there no gunk or redness.

Few days ago my eye was slightly sore, ie by pressing my finger to my eyelid on my eye, but that went.

The blurring has all but cleared up now, so im thinking it could be some kind of eye infection coming or just something simple as cold in it.

Eitherway it practally cleared up if it does do it again tomoz, i'll make an appointment with my Doctor if they open that is.

Notice you are in the UK.

**Most GP surgeries in the UK will be closed monday and tuesday Bank Holiday.
So Out of hours GP is what covers them.

1) There is always an Out of Hour (OOH) GP service.
Normally if you call your own GP - it will play a message saying they are closed and give you instructions on how to contact the OOH service or may just put you through.
If any difficulties - call NHS direct and ask for your local OOH GP.

2) Another option is to attend a local Eye Casualty - but really depends where you are and what their opening hours are like.

3) Lastly A&E/Casualty is always open 24/7 - so if you have difficulties with the above - get someone to take you there (ie don't drive as a) it is not safe, b) they may put a pupil dilator drop for examination).

Look (no pun intended), it's your eyes... If I go blind I'd just probably kill myself, and I do have I.E.P that's caused by P.D.S.


Bottom line, see a doctor, don't funk around with your eyes, it ain't just a skin rash.

Go to the eye doctor, they would do all sorts of test, eg seeing the back of your eye etc, but for the love of god don't search on the net.

Go to E.R. they are always open.

I have woken up a few times like that. Takes a couple hours to slowly fade away. When it happen my eye would feel dry and what not. I bet you slept with your eye partly open or you slept on your stomach with your face planted in the pillow with pressure on the eye.

Have it checked out by your eye doctor. I started having eye problems about 2 years ago. Lots of tests later I was diagnosed with optic neuritis. Your vision is nothing to f with and it could be a symptom of something else.
