Default We are all insane
I was at the hospital from 6:00 to 20:00. Got home, and have been reading from 21:00 till 00:00. I have to be awake at 4:45 to make it to the hospital tomorrow. I have been doing this for two weeks straight... every day...

... and today, a senior resident spent a good 10 minutes adding spaces between a dash and the words in a plaintext bulleted list, the same way I would... because we are all anal and absolutely batshit insane.

We all have huge bags under our eyes, sleep like 4-5 hours a night maximum, and I have not read the news for 4 weeks. For all I know, we could've been liberated by Xinilth the mighty, may-his-larvae-reproduce-endlessly...

Anyway, I'm ranting because I am so incredibly tired... I would give quite a lot for a good night's sleep...

And the criminally stupid medical establishment will continue to put you, and all the other residents, etc, into positions where you are literally expected to make instant life and death decisions! [rolleyes][rolleyes][rolleyes]

Any other profession has strict guidelines for rest and sleep, but perhaps the most critical one of the most critical is actually actively preventing that!

Hospital administrations should be up on so many negligence and manslaughter charges! [cursing][cursing][cursing]

I agree. Who wants a doctor checking your stomach or head durign an operation when they have had like 4-5 hours sleep?

Hey, Gnius..what's your income if you don't mind me asking? I'm curious if it's worth it.

A few of my friends work for the NHS in the UK and all say that nobody gets rich as an NHS physician. They do it because they love it. Saying that, I think even junior doctors get about £39k including overnight bonuses etc...

I think the mistake is reading from 2100 till 0000.

I'm working 7 days this week, each 12 hours though. Still, I get home 2030, asleep by 2300, so I can wake up at 0600 for work at 0800 in a state of relative alertness just incase the Iranians start lobbing missiles across the atlantic.

Residents still have to take LOADS of exams to progress.

One of my medical mentors taught me a great expression: "when you hear hooves, think horses, not zebras."

LOKL, that's just a pretentious way of saying that it's usually the most obvious cause. Or to use occam's razor.

Well the plus side is you're on a path to a good future.

We're all crazy-obsessive-tired-addicts, it's called being human.

Having said all this I will now forever envision Gnuis's life as the show 'Scrubs'.

It's these types of days where co-workers think yer crazy because your constantly making bad jokes and running around like a moron.
(when you get yer second wind that is)

I generally sleep 4-5 hours a night for the past 2 years... I also have sleep apnia so I wake up randomly dazed and confused sitting on the bed for an hour.. So on a weeknight I may get anywhere from 3-5 hours of sleep. I sometimes have trouble concentrating and lose my train of thought and blankly stare at an object for minutes. I sometimes take an hour or two nap.

It doesn't exist in EMR software we use. Copy and paste is very limited also.
