Why not get it on contract. Never understood wanting to cough up £500 for a phone and then pay for usage on top of that.

Because to get it on contract you need to pay "roughly" £40 a month for it for free,

Most networks are offering it up on 2 year contracts, so 24 x 40 = £960 (i know some are less but i'm going on the presumption I want the phone free and generally this is the case in shops etc)

I can get PAYG rolling monthly contract with virgin for £10 a month, with unlimited text and internets and 300mins Thats 240 quid(presuming I kept it up for a year) plus £450 = £690.

PLUS I'm not bound to a 2 year contract.

Speaks for itself if you can afford it upfront.

I refuse to go on anymore more than a 12 year contract, Its b*llshit and a con if you ask me.

dont bother with the HD Desire. One main reason... Small battery and almost no way to add a higher capacity battery due to the battery compartment. But then again you could always carry a second battery pack with you. I do that with my n900.

I will admit they did look at me like i had walked off a space ship when i asked to buy it not on contract, but they did sell it to me. Maybe try ringing around a few Carphone Warehouses in your area?

Completely agree. I did that with the iPhone 4. I compared it to all the contracts that were out at the time and the only one which was anywhere near as good was Tecso. But then they didn't offer such a good deal for the amount of free mins I wanted and charge you extra if you go over the 1GB limit.

Cheapest 24-month HTC Desire HD deal: £560

Which is the deal with the lowest amount of moolah shelled out over a two-year contract? It's T-Mobile's by a country mile, on a £10 monthly deal after paying £320 for the phone. That includes 100 minutes, 100 texts, unlimited Internet with a 3GB fair-use policy, and a free booster, such as cheap overseas calls. What a deal!

Well it works I suppose if you want to stump up so much up front and have paying £40 a month as an alternative.

Looking at thecarphonewarehouse that phone can be had for £35 a month (x24 is £840). And looking at virgin, a similar contract is £15 a month. So 360+450=£810. So not a lot in it if I personally were to go shopping now. Obivously if you can get better deals then thats different.

Or if you buy if for £39.99 you can get it on Orange for £25 a month, which is £639.99 on mobiles.co.uk

I bought my iPhone 4 full price and obtained a 3 PAYG SIM because I hardly ever make any calls, but want the phone for the internet and apps. That was cheaper and made more sense than laying out a monthly sum for a contract.
I can get PAYG rolling monthly contract
How can a contract, albeit a monthly one, be PAYG? It's either one or the other.

What's so wrong with considering the iPhone 4? Considering it seems to be the only decent smart phone you can get on PAYG.
