I think that, at this stage, it's pretty hit-and miss.

We need to set up some way to get stuff into orbit for relatively cheap first.

Is this a case where billion means something different to you Brits than normal people? Billion as in 10^9, right? If so, no, of course humans won't be around in that incredibly long time-frame. Life evolved from single cellular organisms to complex animals in a fraction of that time. How much do you think we will have changed?

Well the Milky Way will for sure be around in 5bn years, why shouldn't we?
As humans? The same species? Impossible. 5 million years is probably impossible as well.

There is, approximately, a 0% chance there will be homo sapiens in 5 billion years.

Women? No. Why would you assume that?

Women are weak.

You don't think in 5 billion years we could grow fetuses outside of a womb?

In fact, we could perfectly control the environment of a baby with science. Make it even better than the womb.

What is right is not always easy.

A race full of women would get nothing done.

I don't think an all-male monosexual humanity would happen 'naturally' meaning with respect to... god, how would you describe it without causing confusion with the very unnaturalness of the whole thing? like a logical human adaptation arrived at because of something... I don't know.

Like an all-female society is easy to imagine because suppose Y chromosomes started being corrupted somehow and were no longer able to bring about male babies... then X chromosome sperm would be collected and preserved and used to fertilize female eggs when needed... all female species. Plus you could always take out female X chromosomes and pair them together when the sperm runs out (similar to your all-male system)

With an all-male... there's the plus that men with both X and Y are technically with the aide of technology, capable of producing both males and females... so why would they not also produce females and make the whole thing easier by having males and females again? Why would they keep doing the difficult thing and combining X and Y's in a lab when they could just make some women and use nature's lab?

You see what I'm saying? An monogender society is only going to be female. Not male. If it's male and they are able to reproduce with sperm only then they can make women just as easily as more men. We'd go back to having females right away. With females... once, we hit all female, it's all females forever.

What the ****?

Again...

What you're saying makes no ****ing sense.

This is 5 billion years in the future. We can do whatever the **** we want with the DNA. Want to swap some X and Ys? Why the **** not?

See what I'm saying?

So let's skip over the inconsequential **** like DNA. Focus on the sociological effects.

Society of men vs society of women.

Go to a Justin Bieber concert and tell me a society of women would work. DO IT.

I thought we're trying to have a serious discussion? It says serious in the thread title! Not just a thread for denigrating women!

Why are you not understanding what I'm saying? A monogender species is going to be female not male for no other reason than females can only produce more females while males can produce both females and males. Males can, with the aide of advanced technology, always produce more women! We can always make Eve's from our ribs, so to speak.

And unless human thinking changes to some point where we would rather make babies in a test tube than in a woman's womb and to where we feel that all-men is somehow superior/desirable to mixed men and women... then your all-male society will be very brief and quickly start producing females.

An all-female species does not have that option just because of the nature of the X-Y sexual determination system.

Therefore, the only reasonable possibility for a monogender species is all females.

Do you not know the rules? [serious] implies it is not a serious thread.

FACTS do not denigrate, they describe!

I'm understanding what you're saying, it's just that it's wrong.

Typical ****ing worthlessly visionless arts students. This is why your education was a wasteful burden on the taxpayer.

In 5 billion years, we do not need to rely on naturally-occurring X/Y chromosomes in DNA. We can flip them as we see fit.
Computer major who doesn't understand logic...

If we can flip them as we see fit then a monogender society will NEVER occur, whether female or male!

But no one would pick female because:
1) It would make no sense
2) It would be forbidden via legislation by King Richard Simons XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXVI
So you're assuming that 1) all men become gay, 2) all men agree that technological reproduction is superior to biological, and 3) all men agree that women are not desirable to have around

Your assumptions require a big leap of faith.

OTHER FACTS: The more urban an environment, the more gays there are per capita. The world is becoming increasingly urbanized. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

You're claiming that once children can be artificially grown from conception to 'birth', with no chance of mishaps, that women would still prefer to bear children?

If a monogender society arises, then there's pretty high odds it'll be monogender due to a concious decision from either its citizens, or its leaders. It'd be trivial at that point to produce whatever the ****ing hell they want, even if it's only midget blue-eyed hairless men with gigantic dicks.
