Samsung Captivate is just....captivating!
Man, does it feel good to get rid of a POFS phone (Nokia N97) that would give headaches and breakdowns due to responsiveness issues! New generation of phones are just beasts. I mean 1Ghz CPU, 512Mb of RAM (and only 256Mb is used in Android 2.1, but all 512Mb will be used in Android 2.2). Me finally cell-phone happy![thumbup] Still can't figure out why there is no sync software for it...

it's a good phone.. I'd suggest the one click lag fix app on market place to see how much smoother things can actually be..

But...but...you tried so hard to get the N97 before US release?
Maybe you are impulsive. How's the amazing apartment going with the pools and overnight parties at the built in disco? |

Although, to be fair there's not that much need for it as your google account is really doing all that. |

http://www.samsung.com/ae/consumer/m...il&tab=support A little more info: http://www.appscout.com/2010/07/sams...aptivate_v.php Since I'm in the US, I chose Canada as my country and it worked fine. I just did it to see if I could, I am more of a drag and drop guy myself (for files, google account for everything else). Love my Captivate, it has 2X more GPU power than anything out there (phones), great battery life (once you go to a darker background and reduce brightness), works like a champ. You need to: run the lag fix and use launcher pro (home/touchwiz replacement). I also used titanium backup and removed all the ATT bloatware. It is like a different phone. |

In fact the entire phone has pretty much the same specs as the Galaxy S with the only difference I can see is that the Captivate has quadband where the Galaxy S only has tri band. Quote:

Everything runs super fast using Voodoo and there's very little to no stuttering when scrolling or sliding. Quote:
EDIT: Also if you like fish then perhaps the the Aquarium live wallpaper will be a nice addition. I use it and I'm loving it. EDIT2: Actually I think the voodoo fix is only available for the Galaxy S. May want to check that before going ahead with it. |

The voodoo fix however completely replaces the RTF file system. However you cannot use it at the moment as they've taken down the download link (I still have a copy however). They are releasing Beta 2 with some bug fixes. Seriously, when I used OneClickLagFix I scored about 2,000 in quadrant. Using Voodoo I only score 1,700 but the phone feels twice as fast. |
Woah! I did the app lag fix (figured out how to root it properly) and it did make the phone faster. Not going to bother with flashing until Froyo is out and I can assess if I even need the extra speed.
I do want to remove AT&T bloatware but it requires deep deletion and I am just afraid that some errors will show up after their removal because they are deep default apps....or am I wrong? What is the best way to get rid of all that junk? Also, am I right in thinking that Android 2.1 does not even use all of 512Mb of RAM in Captivate?! Froyo must have been in mind when designing this phone. EDIT: I used Titanium Backup and removed all of that AT&T crap! Each day makes me a happier Samsung Captivate user. The camera on this phone...does suck a bit. N97 camera was better hands down. |
