Samsung Captivate is just....captivating!

Man, does it feel good to get rid of a POFS phone (Nokia N97) that would give headaches and breakdowns due to responsiveness issues! New generation of phones are just beasts. I mean 1Ghz CPU, 512Mb of RAM (and only 256Mb is used in Android 2.1, but all 512Mb will be used in Android 2.2). Me finally cell-phone happy![thumbup] Still can't figure out why there is no sync software for it...

attanilifardy 06-09-2010 10:24 PM

it's a good phone.. I'd suggest the one click lag fix app on market place to see how much smoother things can actually be..

I tried....its in red color and says its unavailable, even after I did the root thingy...

But...but...you tried so hard to get the N97 before US release?

Maybe you are impulsive. How's the amazing apartment going with the pools and overnight parties at the built in disco?

Those are good. The phone was the only disappointment really.

that's weird.. maybe because it's a captivate and not the standard S model. if you still want to do it you could ask on the androidforums

Welcome to the wonderful world of Samsung support [cursing]
Although, to be fair there's not that much need for it as your google account is really doing all that.

There is, called Kies:

A little more info:

http://www.appscout.com/2010/07/sams...aptivate_v.php

Since I'm in the US, I chose Canada as my country and it worked fine. I just did it to see if I could, I am more of a drag and drop guy myself (for files, google account for everything else).

Love my Captivate, it has 2X more GPU power than anything out there (phones), great battery life (once you go to a darker background and reduce brightness), works like a champ.

You need to: run the lag fix and use launcher pro (home/touchwiz replacement). I also used titanium backup and removed all the ATT bloatware. It is like a different phone.

No it doesn't, it uses the same GPU my Galaxy S has which has been out for a while now.

In fact the entire phone has pretty much the same specs as the Galaxy S with the only difference I can see is that the Captivate has quadband where the Galaxy S only has tri band.

If it's anything like the Galaxy S. Mine started off very poor (battery would die within couple hours of use). After a couple weeks I can now play songs constantly, game for several hours (angry bird, Thunder Rage 2, Asphalt 5 etc) and still have plenty of juice left in the battery and that's with brightness turned up.

You need to: run the lag fix
Highly disagree (if your referring to OneClick LagFix etc). I tried it and it only fixes some of the lag. The Voodoo fix (by curio) with JM7 firmware (or whatever one you like) is by far the best lagfix you can possibly get.

Everything runs super fast using Voodoo and there's very little to no stuttering when scrolling or sliding.

and use launcher pro
LauncherPro is awesome. Absolutely love it. Combine it with Beautiful Widgets and you'll have a beautiful super fast phone http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/laugh1.gif

EDIT: Also if you like fish then perhaps the the Aquarium live wallpaper will be a nice addition. I use it and I'm loving it.

EDIT2: Actually I think the voodoo fix is only available for the Galaxy S. May want to check that before going ahead with it.

Are you sure? I've seen pics of the Captivate and it's completely different (visually). It has no forward facing camera, and it has quadband whereas the SGS only has triband. I'd say the two a fairly different. performance wise however they are the same.

Amerworma 07-09-2010 02:35 PM

Same phone, just minor tweaks.

attanilifardy 07-09-2010 04:14 PM

it's the same phone.. it's just that some providers offer different versions of the same phone.. one has a keyboard I think

Is the voodoo fix also an app? If so it's not on the app market

The Captivate on AT&T, the Facinate on Verizon, the Vibrant on T-mobile, and the Epic 4G on Sprint are all the Samsung Galaxy S.

The samsung Galaxy pad looks nice, waiting to see motorola's though.

No you have to flash it as it replaces the kernal (which is why it's so good). If I read correctly the SGS uses an RTF file system which is very crappy. The lagfixes like the on your probably using uses a virtual partition of sorts to compensate. The RTF file system is still there however.

The voodoo fix however completely replaces the RTF file system. However you cannot use it at the moment as they've taken down the download link (I still have a copy however). They are releasing Beta 2 with some bug fixes.

Seriously, when I used OneClickLagFix I scored about 2,000 in quadrant. Using Voodoo I only score 1,700 but the phone feels twice as fast.

MAKEMONEY 07-09-2010 11:33 PM

Woah! I did the app lag fix (figured out how to root it properly) and it did make the phone faster. Not going to bother with flashing until Froyo is out and I can assess if I even need the extra speed.

I do want to remove AT&T bloatware but it requires deep deletion and I am just afraid that some errors will show up after their removal because they are deep default apps....or am I wrong? What is the best way to get rid of all that junk?

Also, am I right in thinking that Android 2.1 does not even use all of 512Mb of RAM in Captivate?! Froyo must have been in mind when designing this phone.

EDIT: I used Titanium Backup and removed all of that AT&T crap! Each day makes me a happier Samsung Captivate user. The camera on this phone...does suck a bit. N97 camera was better hands down.

Yay! smart phones are bring back the e-penis. Now we just need to wait for them to bring out 3D Mark 2001 for the Android.
