Life before the Computer

Someone just sent me this

Life before the Computer

a memory was something that you lost with age
an application was for employment
a program was a Tv show
a cursor used profanity
a keyboard was a piano
a web was the spiders home
a virus was the flu
a CD was a bank account
a hard drive was a long road trip
a mouse pad was where a mouse lived
and if you had a 3 inch floppy,..

you just hoped nobody found out about it.

When the net was something you fished with.
When a pointer was a sick.
When a desktop was the top of the desk.

I think I was lucky being born in 1980 as it meant that as a kid I actually left the house and went out on my bike, played footy, etc etc. But I still got the benefit of learning to use a computer at high school.

I did too, but I was born in the mid 70's. I never lost my life to it. But I lost plenty of weekends to Bards Tale. I've been hooked on rpg's ever since!

Did you actually want one, or did your parents buy it instead of a C64 or Spectrum (which I'm pretty sure are what most kids wanted) because it was "educational"?

I had a Spectrum and a C64!

Ahhh....80's computing.

Had an Amstrad CPC464 myself. Knackering Konix Speedking joysticks playing Daley Thompson's Decathlon. Great Days.........

My dad bought it when I was about 1 or something for himself to program on. I had a master system and then a megadrive for games. Still loved beachhead though.

You are making me feel old. My c64 was actually an upgrade from my old computer (vic-20)!

I also had a ZX81 (still got it somewhere), and in the early '90s an Amiga 500. The Spectrum was really my brother's, but he gave it to me in the end. I did buy myself a Spectrum +3 though.

Oh.

Rx-Ultram 08-27-2010 11:12 PM

I had the ZX80 first, then I upgraded with a kit to the ZX81...http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/wink1.gif

Sort of before the computer - before the prevalence of satellites, an international tole call could cost a day's wages for 3 minutes and had to be booked days in advance - cut down on your internet usage if it was still that rate now, wouldn't it?
