Default Stock market trading...
I've had a spark of interest in trading on the stock market... simply put, I don't know ANYTHING about it, yet...

Any advice to a newbie investor about the best ways to invest in low risk stocks? which brokers? what type of stock?

I'm more interested in using it as a kind of "savings" account as opposed to gambling...

Any advice? I'm in the UK, not sure if that makes a difference to online brokers available to me, I was looking at a Halifax ShareBuilder but not sure if thats the right way to go or not.

Thanks guys!

I opened a ScotTrade Roth IRA account (a retirement savings account in which your money, when you take it out anytime after you turn 59.5 years old is not taxed) that is real easy to use and only costs $7 a trade.

There are different types and rules for each type of account, so start there. I'm not sure what the UK offfers and if it differs significantly from the US.
