Learnt that from watching Coast." Whatever spin you want to put on it, that text is ambiguous to a lot of people. Especially more so on a techy forum where people have a tendency to take this literally to the letter. |

Apparently the RNLI operates Don't know what RNLI is? Google it! Eire Don't know what Eire is? Learn geography or Google it! Learnt that from watching Coast The clue is in the word "watched". Honestly people here are such hypocrites. Every time some one else mentions something that I don't what it is and I ask to have it explained I get told off and told to Google it. It seems it's different when the shoe's on the other foot. [rolleyes] |

My point is that around here most people think in binary, if you don't spell it out word for word in a linear fashion you're going to get called on everything they don't understand, or don't want to understand. |
This thread definitely needed a "UK only!" sticker or something...
|
So is anyone actually going to talk about the topic instead of picking holes?

I'm surprised you'd think that anyone would be anything more than mildly bored by this. It's not exactly an exciting revelation, is it? "Hey, did you know the RNLI operates in Eire?" "Whaaaaat??? NO... WAY." "Yes, waaaayyy, dude!!!" |

I'm sure some sort of agreement was made at some point somewhere, where Ireland asked the perfectly capable RNLI to patrol their waters as well. It may be a republic, but it's right next door. Think of it as, perhaps, a friendly neighbourly deed. Like watering the plants when the lady next door is on vacation. Only, with boats. There are plenty of international parties working together. Police forces of many European countries work together to fight crime, too, sometimes even across eachothers' borders. You're very surprised at something that really doesn't seem that big a deal. Not to me, at least. |
