2 weeks beforehand he sends us an email saying his camera is broken and wants US to pay for the rental. Try to contact him and he messes us around and completely fails at contacting us. Finally sent us an email saying his partner has pulled out and he wants to completely cancel and refund our deposit. UK law states we had a contract and he has broken it. Sent him an email saying we agree to nothing and will not discuss it before the wedding and that we will contact him regarding our legal position after the wedding. ![]() Let him stew on that. |

Firstly, congratulations on getting hitched. It was the happiest day of my life.
Hired a videographer on a discount deal, I sincerely hope you didn't do the same with the photographer. Unlike the video, other people will actually look at your wedding photos many years from now. We hired a real pro, and it cost us an arm and a leg (he cost about 50% of the entire price of the venue, including food a liquor)... and it was worth every penny. |

Well the we spent quite a bit on the photographer yes, no problems there. A lovely couple that is costing is quite a bit and considering their previous work (they are not newcomers) then they should probably charging more.
We spent as much as we could on the photography but then we won some more money in a eurovision sweepstakes and decided to try and get a videographer. This guy was fairly new, but seemed decent enough and we thought it was better than nothing or asking family to do it. We are putting the money into having the photographers for a bit longer. |

Unless you're actually going to take legal advice (which you're entitled to do) you're just being a tw*t. If I hire "2 men and a van" I don't expect to be told a few days beforehand, that I need to rent the van for them. This is why professionals always have backup tools, whatever they may be. You don't really expect the doctor to ask you for a stethoscope at your physical, do you? |

So he has offered to refund your deposit and is backing out of the deal..... Whats the problem? You get your money back what more are you looking for? Move on and find another person. You haven't lost any money, you actually come off as a tw*t. I would say since he isnt screwing you out of anything but the time it took to find and hire him just move on. To be fair, he should find you an adequate replacement (not that he should pay for it). |

Actually legally he should. That was the contract we had with our photographer. He worked with someone, and if he would be unable to provide the service, someone he vouched for would replace him. Not an ideal situation, but if he became ill the night before, what could he possibly do... Can't really ask for more than that and still be reasonable. Obviously, if afterwards you're not satisfied with the replacement, you have to raise the issue with the person you contracted with. ... but honestly, I can't believe you don't have cancellation terms and absence terms in your contract. |

UK law states we had a contract and he has broken it. If you have no written contract, then the default liability for the contract is the total value of the contract, which by definition is any monies received until provision of services. He has offered to refund the money you have given him, so he's done everything required under UK law. I wouldn't waste your time chasing this legally as you won't get compensation, just take the refund and spend it on something else. Actually legally he should. That aside, it was a bit off for him to expect you to pay the rental for the equipment as he should have a spare. |

Qualified solicitor are you? I would check said contract, it probably has a cancellation term that states the service can be withdrawn at any time with liability limited to the amount of any monies received to that time. |

Well lets put it this way: what you going to do sue him because his camera broke... meaks old pal, its your own **** up for not looking into eventualities as weddings rarely go to plan. and your going to make your wedding day turn out **** because your letting this play on your mind (S) I'd be more worried about the bride turning up on the day than the poxy photographer... oh and lol for suing for damages, lol really... |
