Default Tech producs bought in US and brought back to UK.
Anyone had experiance doing this? Im fairly up to date on consoles and Blu-Ray regions etc. But off to US soon and intend using it as a shopping tip for some stuff. Electronics have allot of pitfalls though. Like will a US IPAD work in the UK? Any issues with getting it onto 3g etc? Same with an Iphone or ipod touch for instance. Anyone have some info on this or has experianced it? Some stuff is so much cheaper in the US! >.<

I thought all Ipods and Ipads were provider locked for starters, meaning you'll have to jailbreak and unlock it. the chargers won't work so you'll need to buy different ones and the customs are very likely to pick them out of your bag (because everybody knows they're cheaper in the us while still expensive enough to be worth the effort of fining you)

So if you buy one, you'll have to use it (upload some old pictures to it for example proving you had it before you left the UK) and throw away all packaging and receipt. That's the only full-proof way nowadays, personally I don't think it's worth it.

If you'd buy some sort of cpu on the other hand, nobody'd care. Or a nice SSD or you might even try a gfx card.

Also: Clothes! You'll easily save enough to buy an iPad in the UK. (and they're easier to get past customs; wear them, wash them, et voila)

Been to the US only once, but that was before the coming of the iPhone (which back then could be had for 200 dollars if you played your cards right. Note that this is NO LONGER POSSIBLE unless you know someone in America who's willing to vouch for it (he'll have to bring his ID and buy it himself, then can pass it on to you))
Brought back a PSP and some clothes. My dad got caught once with $500 worth of shirts and was fined, good thing my sister got through with over $2000 worth in her beg (they traveled together)

I tried it once (2 gfx cards, a few CPUs (P4 Northwoods are so expensive here at the time), HDDs and loads of DDR2 RAM between the clothes) because it was so ultra cheap in the US, so I took my chances. Wasnt pulled over to customs but my heart was beating alot faster hehe.

Then I ordered the Dirty Harry Collectors Edition from the US, and was fined!

Only iPhones are locked to carriers as iPods do not use cellular carriers. As far as charging any of them, including the iPad the only thing that would be needed is the wall outlet to USB adapter or they can be plugged into any powered USB port.

Apple has an international warranty on iPad and iPhones, so you should be OK with those.
