how do u calibrate that ****? 0.01mm off and it will be inaccurate at long distance? Shoot 3 rounds or so. See how far off you were. Adjust scope with the dials. Shoot 3 rounds or so. Keep doing this till the shots are on target at this set distance. ________ Voyeur Bikini |

Meaning that the pellet has that many ft/lbs of energy leaving the muzzle? |

I know I've come across this before when someone has posted about an air rifle in the UK. 12 lbf is the maximum for a UK air rifle but it seems to be mistakenly replaced with the suffix ft-lbs. lbf is an old measurement of force, foot-pound-second. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pound-force That's crazy low... less than 1/10th the power of a .22LR bullet! My .300RUM handloads come out closer to 5000! ![]() |

12 ft lbs on a .22 air rifle would be about 600fps
12 ft lbs on a .177 is more like 800fps I found this website helpful for working out velocity/energy and such. http://www.pyramydair.com/site/articles/formulas/ ________ Vito |

suits my needs,I would rather have some of the animal left if I shot it thank you ![]() jb2cool - But to get the .22LR down to that speed, the bullet'd already have traveled 350+ yards... which the .177 wouldn't touch, short of lobbing it in like a ballistic missile! [rofl] Of course the .22 is going to develop more force at lower velocities, because it has more mass on its side. |

Micron,
If your bullet is 220grains and the rifle is putting out 5000ft/lbs then the calculation on this site (http://www.pyramydair.com/site/articles/formulas/) means that the bullet is going at mach 3/2285mph/3350fps Is this right? ________ BMW R1100GS |

I think the issue could be that the animal is going to be left. Left in its burrow to die. You kind of want the power of a 22LR for instant killing rather than your animal limping off to die somewhere. For deer, I use anywhere between a 150gr Hornady GMX up to a 180gr Hornady SST, depending on the type of hunting and distances... |
