I don't want to spoil it for you, but if you watch all of the first season and make it to start of season two, you'll either think it's the best thing ever or you'll have considered hurting yourself.

It is actually pretty good, but depressing as hell. I think it's the age of the characters that makes it worse.

Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni. The sequel is Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Kai, and the final OVA series is Ni Rei.

And agreed. You aren't ready to see it.

Seriously it only makes sense when you get to the second series, and it's a hard journey... "What has been seen can not be unseen".

Yeah, about 11 years ago I wished I had a delete button for my brain, now it just doesn't bother me. Correction, I'm not inhuman, I just easilly differentiate between fantasy and reality... except where Christina Hendricks is concerned....

That's pretty much spot on really. You are just left going "okay.....what the ****?" for the entire first series and most of the second...and yeah seriously....what has been seen can *NOT* be unseen.

What a mind ****.

If you are into that sort of thing, then check out School Days. Bahahaha.....I so wish I could erase that series from my brain. Seriously. It literally left me feeling mentally, emotionally, and even physically ill for weeks after seeing that. It's....just not right man....it's just not right. [no]

Isn't that the one with the ultra slow motion scene of the girl falling head first from the top of a building? Cause that was funny as hell.

I don't recall that scene. Mind you it has been a few years since I've seen it, but the disturbing parts I'm referring to occur in the latter half of the series, maybe the final quarter even.....breaks your brain.

You see those that have watched this series and are now making posts here have cause a very big problem indeed, an ironic one at that.

What you have posted has now got many of us SERIOUSLY intruiged about the series (me included), so i suggest you do us all a real favour and just describe the bits that we 'are not ready for' perhaps hearing the descriptions of said scenes we can be disgusted enough to avoid watching it altogether.

As of right now.... i really wanna know what the hell is so disturbing...

A young girl, guessing about 11 or 12 stabs herself in the head to avoid being tortured to death by the one with green hair. This was after she'd been taser'd and injected with an unknown drug she was trying to administer to the one with green hair.

The biggest headache seems to be a groundhog-day style repeating of the same story with different scenario's and outcomes.

I can't describe it, it's a mixture of gore and and caring for the characters. In normal horror movies you don't get as much time to like the characters, but this anime does enough character building over its course that the end of season one is actually a happy ending.

It's based on a visual novel, and abuses that mechanic, so you get a arc bad things happen time rewinds, different bad things happen, rewind even worse bad things happen. By the time you hit episode 15, you just don't want to hit play. Not because it's boring or bad, you just don't know if you can take anymore.

That's pretty much as much as I can give you.

Other than that, it did get licensed in the US, but the distributer decided they didn't want to do anything with it. And in Japan they stopped showing it on TV for a period of time because a few knife murders were in the news and it was considered distasteful.
