While he is technically correct in modern day terms, it's believed quite widely that the etymology of the word football actually originated around games played on foot by peasants (including what we now call football / soccer).

Football in America is a strategic game, I don't know what he's talking about.

John Cleese if my hero... he's probably the only man in the world who I would put up with being insulted by 24/7 and still get a good laugh out of it. [rofl]

Just like all British humor. Lame, contrived, predictable and unfunny.

Yeah it's not bad, it doesn't beat the most popular porn in the US though:

That remains one of the most brutal knockouts I'v ever seen. It's to bad the UFC has become a league of wrestling lately.
But anyways, yea i'm American and I don't even get why they call it football. It is an exciting game though, the games are very thought out and somewhat methodical. Soccer, which isn't as popular here can still be exciting however, but most Americans I believe just hate the fact that there can be a tie. A game should have a winner!

Why is it that it seems the Brits are the only ones who want to cry about this?

We do things one way, you guys do things your way. Live with it.

Edit: I still respect John Cleese and think he's a funny person.

Does anybody know if John Cleese is a member of the forums? I think he'd have a field day here!

You should have chosen your own word for it then. If you're going to steal our language, expect some backlash [rofl]

Good one [rofl] And true.
I'm not saying I personally like british humor but sometimes it's funny.
Allthough I have never really grasped the whole concept of "british humour", what defines british humour and what makes it so different. Is all comedy from britain the same?
