It might help to kill off "traditional" outlook based ISP email (which I hardly ever use anymore) - but gmail / hotmail etc? - no chance.

I actually think the opposite as your regular Facebook user probably uses webmail more than pop3. pop3 will probably be less affected I think due to the fact Facebook will never replace business emails, but may replace webmail.

Ah - sry - should probably clarify. I was speaking about pop3 from the point of view of home usage, not business. pop3 at home is dieing in favour of webmail, but I can't see facebook etc ever completely replacing either of these.

Gotcha now. I must admit I tend to use it more than hotmail and gmail for sending mails to pals now, but I think you are right I'm probably in the minority.

There are things that facebook are appropriate for like tell all you friends you went to a party at the weekend and there are more important things that are more suited to email. I don't like facebook but I can see how it's become pervasive. I joined Facebook before any of my friends did because I wanted to look at some pictures of this girl. Of course I didn't really use it until friends did start getting on there but then this one guy started posting post multiple updates a day things like how he was going to clean the apartment today and hourly updates on how cleaning the apartment was going. When another girl who would also feel the need to update her status constantly set her status to having spaghetti for dinner I thought **** this **** and I hardly go on anymore. I have to admit though it means I'm out of the loop a lot and I have to ask my wife, who is on Facebook, what's happening to my sister.

I would lose my mind if someone told me I had to use Facebook for all communication. I don't even understand the difference between 'Home' and 'Profile.' For me, clicking on either brings up a big mess of dung about what other people think is important enough for the rest of the world to know. Oh, you're getting ready to make dinner now? I guess that's important enough to broadcast to your 1,100 friends.

It's a mess! I still like it, but it's nowhere near ready to start replacing existing means of communication.

Interestingly enough we are still using sliced bread, I send real birthday cards, not e-cards, and the other day someone asked me to send them a fax! My God.
