Default Thinking of doing TEFL
Hi,

I've been working in the IT industry for 5 years now and I'm not getting anywhere. I was thinking of getting into webdesign/developing but the competition is fierce and it will take me another 5 years to make something of myself in that line of work.

Due to some personal issues with home life I've decided to try teaching English in a another country. I was wondering if anyone else had tried this? You can do the course in a4 week intensive session or part time over 27 weeks. In the end you get a qualification that helps you get a job abroad as an English teacher to kids and high schoolers.

The courses ca cost from £300 to £10000 pounds, the grand course is CELTA and apparently that’s the best one out there and overseas employers love it.

So here I am thinking about taking a year out of the UK to try something different. Have any of you guys done this or know people who have? What was it like? Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I know someone who did that in China. It was a scam. He got there and in 30 days they gave him 2 courses. $5000 or so later he made it back home. Fast forward to now (about 4 years later) and he is back there. Idiot.

Just make sure you go with a reputable company.

That's just it I can't seem to find a cmpany that has a 100% track record, i-to-i are big but alot of people have given bad reviews aswell as good ones. There's just so many companys offering the same thing where do I start!

The official forums don't really help, they full of noobs and experienced people not willing to help very much

My bro went there with his wife (She is Japanese). Once there he stayed with family. Obtained a job, and moved out. He has worked for a couple of different companies, with the last being ~ 2 years. This might be harder for you to be honest if you dont know anyone there.
