Your not wrong there! I hate to break the news to you, but everyone is going to die. Eventually. If you are referring to the Mayan prediction, you should probably read this: "Both the Hopis and Mayans recognize that we are approaching the end of a World Age... In both cases, however, the Hopi and Mayan elders do not prophesy that everything will come to an end. Rather, this is a time of transition from one World Age into another. The message they give concerns our making a choice of how we enter the future ahead. Our moving through with either resistance or acceptance will determine whether the transition will happen with cataclysmic changes or gradual peace and tranquility. The same theme can be found reflected in the prophecies of many other Native American visionaries from Black Elk to Sun Bear." — Joseph Robert Jochmans Source Back on topic Those pictures are incredible I may have to use one for my desktop background. After seeing those, I can see where some Mythology came from, those looks like something only a God can create. I can only imagine how epic it was to see in real life. |

I don't really hold much truth to this 2012 theory by the Mayan's etc, but the world has seen some serious natural disasters in the last couple of years, and they seem to be happening more frequently and with greater magnitude than ever before.
Either the media has never bothered reporting them before, Or the amount of earthquakes hitting Asia and other areas of the world has becoming increasingly more frequent. The Earthquake that caused the Indonesian Tsunami was much the same magnitude as the ones that have recently hit china and tibet, it would only take a few well placed earthquakes of equal proportion to create even bigger Tsunami's and kill a lot more people. I predict we're heading towards something that's going to kill millions more people in one go, The world just seems to be heading that way. |

One big earthquake/landslide/volcanic eruption/meteor impact in the ocean has the potential to create a tsunami big enough to do it. |

This year doesn't look out of the ordinary so far. Since we're only in April of 2010 and there have already been (according to that scale), more deaths in the last 4 months of this year than in the last 9 years, apart from 2004. So if the amount of quakes keep up as in previous years and erupt in places where the population is dense then the figure for the last 4 months should in theory treble for this year. Apart from this, I'm wondering whether Aug 2010 will bring some more devastating earthquakes, since this will be the time of this year when the Moon is closest to the earth on its elliptical approach, and as most people know the moon effects the earth's tides, but most probably don't realise that it effects the earth's Teutonic plates as well. Not more than a few hours after the Indonesian Tsunami swept 230,000 people to their deaths, my Father told me that he thought the recent Full Moon was to blame as it had caused the Teutonic plates under the ocean to shift against each other and that caused the earthquake and resulting Tsunami/s. (the moon had been its closest to the earth for several years, probably since 2004, going off that scale). The Closer the Moon is to the Earth the more the Earth's crusts are "twisted" out of shape, the next time the Moon is close to the Earth is in August of this year, I'd be very surprised if we don't see some large earthquakes occurring at that time, But depending on what parts of the Earth are subjected to that increased Gravity will depend on where the Earthquakes occur, if at Sea, it could be very bad, on Land, maybe not as bad. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_In...ean_earthquake http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subduction |

Actually I think it does. So if the amount of quakes keep up as in previous years and erupt in places where the population is dense then the figure for the last 4 months should in theory treble for this year. While anything could happen I don't agree with the your statistical analysis. It's like claiming anyone who won a $1+ million lottery so far this year in theory should expect to win two more $1+ million lotteries this year. |

Almost all of the deaths this year are from one earthquake (Haiti) that wasn't particularly strong, but happened to be near a large city with many poorly constructed buildings. One earthquake in Haiti doesn't make a trend. If all of the earthquakes that occurred in 2009, happened within the space of a 6 months this year, then I'd say something is definitely on the Horizon. |

Anyone winning a lottery is based off Luck though, Earthquakes happening are not based on Luck, but what is happening with the Earth at a given time, whether that is effected by the Moon's/Sun's gravitational pull or not. ![]() |

If all of the earthquakes that occurred in 2009, happened within the space of a 6 months this year, then I'd say something is definitely on the Horizon. Considering there have been far less than 1 million deaths from the last 150 major earthquakes since 2000 I wouldn't expect millions to die even if in the event that the number of earthquakes picks up for a few years. |

You may get a more impressive show if Katla erupts which could be several times larger than the current eruption. A Katla eruption has occurred shortly after the last three Eyjafjallajökull eruptions and Katla is (over)due for an eruption anyway as the last eruption was in 1918 and it has been erupting about twice a century on average over the past thousand years. Check this gif out off one of Io's Volcanoes erupting! ![]() Now that's a show! [thumbup] Its just crazy how the mass of Jupiter and its other moons squash and squeeze Io to make it the most volcanically active place in our solar system. ![]() ![]() |

When was the last time Yellowstone went poof ? Last eruption: 70,000 years ago Also, The last full-scale eruption of the Yellowstone Supervolcano, the Lava Creek eruption which happened nearly 640,000 years ago[17], ejected approximately 240 cubic miles (1,000 km3) of rock and dust into the sky.[9] |
