I've been set to take this girl out for a meal (first date) for a while now and finally the time arrived when she had free time and so did I.

About an hour before I was going to head out to meet her, there was a fairly mild / average earthquake. Maybe one of the strongest/longest I've felt here yet.
She has a part time job at the library and was just about to finish but apparently this earthquake caused a whole load of books and **** to fall of the shelves along with lots of files and stuff.

I knew this because she sent me a mail saying she had to stay on longer to sort it out and that she would like to cancel.

Obviously I'm pissed off because I was really looking forward to this and it's taken us a long time to get free time together.
So I had to go and cancel the f*cking table and I said that if she was able to finish early to let me know.
So I bumped into some friends and waited around with them and then finally, maybe 2 hours later I get a message saying she's finished and ALREADY gone home and that's she's deeply sorry that she couldn't make it.

I find it fair enough that she had to stay on but she could have let me know sooner. I was waiting around close by in case she was able to leave, and some part of me thinks this earthquake wasn't big enough to make books fall of the shelves.
Maybe I'm just being bitter because my evening was ruined.

The way to get promotions here is different to the west, here everyone just ass-kisses their way to the top and to do this is to just be at work for as long as possible and not take holidays even though a fair amount is given.

I understand what you mean, there's lots of bad earthquakes happening around the world but I had no intention to make any kind of inappropriate reference to these incidents.
