Corned beef and cabbage

On march 17'th, St. Patrick's Day, it will be 1 year since my dad passed away. Every year prior to that on that day, we had corned beef and cabbage, and it was one of my dad's favorite meals. I did not really mourn him after he died, instead I thought of the things he loved and celebrated his life. To continue with that, I want to cook this every year on that day in memory of my father.

So does anyone have any good recipes or tips for corned beef and cabbage? I've never made it before.

I just buy one of those pre-corned briskets and dump it in a pot with the juice, spice pouch, and a few beers until the brisket is covered in the pot. I boil it for an hour and then pull out the brisket. Add carrots and quartered potatoes and boil for another 30 minutes. Add quartered cabbage with the heart removed and cook for an hour. Slice up brisket and you're done.

Also, drink more beers.

Being Irish, my mother makes a mean corned beef. She simply throws it in a crockpot with water on low heat for about 5 hours, and my lord is it delicious.

If the crockpot doesn't get hot enough, and for long enough, it won't cook the potatoes and they'll be hard.

I think she just puts the corned beef in there. The potatoes are cooked in a pot on the stove.

For the cabbage, I just boil mine in butter till it gets soft to my likings.

For the corned beef, I just dump it in a crock pot with its season packet and let it go. I would look online for some more of the popular recipes for different flavorings and what not.

Pretty much how I've always done it. I like it when it's kind of like a soup. Corned beef, cabbage, red potatoes, carrots, and broth. Throw in a dab of good mustard and I'm happy.
