Default I got attacked by a goose today.
I heard those things can be mean, but good god. This damn killer came at me hissing and flapping and tried to peck me. I couldnt go anywhere as I was up by against a wall. Pretty scary for a bird.[thumbdown]

Swift kick to the breast and they usually leave you alone. Their bites do hurt though!

I was on a picnic once with friends and this big black swan kept coming up to us and acting aggressive.

I had to chase it off with a shoe a couple of times till it got the message.

Just quickly grab their neck if they attack, and straddle around/squat/rugby tackle behind them to avoid the flapping wings, that shuts them up pretty quickly also and if done right doesn't hurt them...

(Well, that's what I did once after being attacked by a random swan on a canal about 5 years ago...)

Their peck can be painful, but tbh it's more 'bark' than 'bite' in general with geese/swans etc, just stand your ground/don't show any fear and they are easy enough to deal with.

It's a herbivore, the pecks can't do any real damage.

Just smack it once, it'll get the message and be on its way.

Yeah not so good idea,
I did that as a kid once, with a 2x4, swung like Darryl Strawberry.
Hit the neck, and the poor thing went from mean to dead in under 2 seconds.

Not any lasting real damage, but they do hurt. Almost like getting shot with a paintball at close range. You can get a nice bruise and maybe a little blood. It's more of a pinch rather than a bite. But yeah, quick smack or kick and they usually go away.
