Default Fujitsu sue Apple over ipad name
Fujitsu make a product called the ipad (used for monitoring stock in shops/warehouses etc) and are going to sue Apple over the right to the ipad name. Does this not strike you as a little hypocritical in that they were obviously one of the slew of companies that copied Apples naming convention of prefixing their product names with a small case i in the first place? Would Fujitsu really of come up with the name ipad if it wasn't for the iPod?

Same thing happened with the iPhone and Cisco. No big deal:

It was then resolved:

Even the legal team of Microsoft is scared of Apples lawyers.

I think iTab or iTablet would have been a cooler name.

Well Apple also registered 'iSlate', so I guess they could always use that in the US.

The guy in that blog is an idiot. There is not a chance in hell Symbian will die, same goes with Windows Mobile. They are both in a transition stage, and no matter which way you look at it Nokia are the single biggest mobile provider in the world. They are not about to roll over and die in 3 years.

I would much prefer that name.

I know it's their thing and it has done well for them, but I think it's time to drop the whole "i" thing. Come up with something else Apple.

As would I. However, I guarantee they wanted to go with a familiar name, and as retarded as iPad sounds, it still pales in comparison to the first time I heard the name "wii."

You know how sometimes you meet people who tell the same joke over and over again, and while it might have been kind of funny the first time, they just tell it over and over again to the point where it is just annoying? Yeah, this is kind of like that except leaving out the joke and only telling the punchline.

The 'i' prefix has always been used by several companies. it's just that Apple really jumped on it and almost tried to make it their own. They've kind of succeeded in that way. I'm sure Compaq's pocket PC's were called ipaq's etc...

I hope Fujitsu win this one though. Apple seem to think they can sue anyone or thing associated with apples, so they deserve it.

they are good products in their own right [yes]

anyway I thought it was normal practice for companies to sue over "similarities" over product branding/naming to Iron out their differences etc.

its not like me suing one of you because you physically injured me trough an action of malice or neglect

Well the "i" prefix can't always of been used by several companies. There has to be a point in time where one company starts using it first. Apple started the iMac line in 1998. That's the first I know of.

Well, before apple started using the "i" prefix, everyone was using the "e" prefix. Apple couldn't really call their computer an eMac (unless they were looking to attract programmers). The original iPhone mentioned in this thread was launched the same year as iMac.
