Default Okay FedEx, this is stupid!
I have my ATI 5770 coming with FedEx "Express", which cost me 4€ more than regular.

So, if I had picked DHL regular, they would have sent the package within two business days, and in they havent been able to deliver because no one's home, they would have delivered the package to a station near my house (about 2km). I could have picked it up in the evening, the station is available 24/7.

So, with FedEx its different, which I learned today. They MUST deliver the package, no matter how many tries it takes, OR I could pick it up myself from their nearest station, which is like 50km away from my place, AND is only open until 7pm! My workday usually ends around 6:30, I wont make it.

Yay! Since work keeps me from spending time at home during workdays I dont know, how I can get my package now! I called them, and they cant rerout the package to my workplace, or give it to a neighbour. And they cant offer a delivery early in the morning or late in the evening.

Pfff....

/rant over.

Odd the Fedex around here sometimes is to lazy to drive down my road and leaves my packages at the house on the corner(good thing I am on good terms with those neighbors).

its going to vary from area to area and company to company

For signature required parcels, Citylink and royal mail deliver the most to my door, they have a habit of leaving any package in the porch, but usually they card me and then CL makes delivery next day (or leaves with a neighbour) and RM keep it in their depot which is 10mins walk up the road.

UPS and Fedex will leave with a neighbour if nobody answers, we have nice next door neighbours, and we hold parcels for them too.

Same here.
It was pretty awesome when they delivered my $1400 laptop to a "FedEx drop box", which I don't have. I did find out a couple days later though that my "neighbors" (about half a mile away) have one.
Most of my deliveries end up there, though last week I had one at a different neighbor's house.

It's pretty awesome how they are perfectly happy just leaving your package at somebody else's house.

Can't you Pre-Sign with FedEx?

Pretty sure I did that when I was in the USA.
Fill out a form and leave it at your door then they take that and leave the package.

Worked fine with an order from Apple Store

"The recipient can sign a FedEx door tag authorizing release of the package without anyone present.".

But doesn't that mean, if the package gets lost, he has allready signed it and FedEx is out of the business?

If by lost you mean stolen from his front door then I guess its out of FedEx hands and a risk you might not want to take.

When I did it there was no problems though. They took the form from the front door and left the package. I got back and it was sitting there waiting for me.

The package was delivered today, fortunately I was still at home. But the guy came like 2 minutes before I had to leave the house.

So the "problem" is solved, but in general its a stupid policy from FedEx.

That's what I meant - if someone steals it from your door, it's your thing and your problem...so I wouldn't use that option...but good luck Streifenkarl got his package now...
