Default New phone
Got a bit fed up with my ages old bog-standard SE jobbie, so picked this up today.

Strangely its meant to have a preinstalled Facebook app, but I'll be buggered if I can find it [surrender]

Yup Tattoo.

I skipped the social networking setup on the first boot as I could not remember my password for Facebook

I can find the Facebook settings in the data-sharing settings menu (where you choose which social stuff you are signed into), but I am completely unable to find the link to the app itself

I dont think its has one, but its no biggy, just get it from the market, its freeee!

I think they probably oversold the app part, because in a way you can actually view peoples albums via te album app, and in contacts view their status and add to yours etc. Its all over the phone really. but for an actual app, just get the one from the market.

Ah - thats kinda what I thought, but at the same time was like "uh? - is there really not one preinstalled"?

Just spent almost 2 hours sorting all my bloody contacts out. My old phone was so old that when I imported the numbers I got individual address book entries for each phone number (even for people that had more than 1 number). Was very annoying to sort out, but all done now [thumbup]

Now I just need to check what the data plan is for my work T-mobile sim, just to make sure I don't get a nasty phonecall from my boss one day in the near future [rofl]

Very impressed with this phone so far though - everything is just so clear and logical - which works for me!

You should have done what i did. Export contacts to a CSV from my old phone (nokia) and then upload to Google (yes you can do that) and voila, all on the phone. So easy doing any editing on the PC too

welcome to the HTC club

heres mine

I used to have an Ipaq 5450 with the GSM pack years ago, and I must admit winmo devices have come a long way.

I used to have it overclocked too from 400 mhz to 600 mhz but the HTC HD2 doesnt need it lol, its taking a bit of getting used to though

Agreed. Had multiple phones with that OS and it is pretty awful. It is also ironic how OHP will babble on and be so baslessly anti-iPhone and then he goes out and get a WinMo phone.

Aren't they due to release phones based on Win7 mobile pretty soon?

I'm not sure how much WinMobile phones have progressed but the last one I had - about 2 yrs ago was a bag of cr*p.

But I'd imagine to keep up in this market - 2 yrs is a long time to pull your socks up and have a decent iPhone alternative.

I used to have a Windows Mobile phone, and while I liked it then because it was able to do things most phones couldn't; this day and age it really does suck.

There are only 2 types of phone on the market now worthy of purchase, the new range of android phones or an iphone. I really like how well integrated all the google stuff is on the android phones so for me that's a one up on the iphone because that's what I liked the iphone for, but little has changed for the iphone in that department. I'm not so much interested in having tonnes of games and stuff weird apps on my phone, I like to have great web enabled tools, and it looks like android will excel in that department.

Yup, that's a big reason why I went Android with the G1, just not into random apps only use a few useful ones. Well that and the full qwerty keyboard and trackball for my big hands :P

How you getting on with it chris? I've not used a tattoo and was wondering what the resistive touchscreen was like.

Sense ui integrates well with facebook (and flickr) downloading profile pics to your contacts and pictures to associated accounts are linked in the gallery app.

Also, have you tried the facebook app available on the Android market?

Hope you're enjoying it.

Very pleased with the phone so far. Yes, the resistive touchscreen is not quite as accurate as my iPod Touch, but its quite usable. I read on the web that HTC tried a capacative screen with the Tattoo, but because the screen is a bit smaller than some of their other phones, it was problematic with the dual-touch functionality etc (made it less accurate) - so they settled on using a resistive screen. Oh - that and costs of course I'm sure!

The facebook app on the marketplace is a bit cack at the moment. I could not really get it to work correctly. Facebook integration is all through the phone by default anyway. I've linked my facebook account, so I can go into my entry in my address book, and can post status updates etc from there. Am holding out for a slightly better app from the marketplace though.

The level of seamless integration in the Android operating system is excellent. Synced my work email account with it - and got all confused for a second when my phones address book suddently got a million times larger. It had included ALL the contacts from my works exchange server directory! [rofl] Luckily there is a handy option on the phone to say which categories of contacts you want to show - so I have it set only to show the ones that are on my phone itself (not my work mail, gmail etc). You can still use those contacts from the various apps - I've just set them not to show when I am looking at my main phone directory.

As ashamed as I am to say, I've actually now joined Twitter... - mainly thats due to the awsome Twitter widget that comes with the phone

This phone works well for me as a) I did not want an HTC with winmobile - and the size of the Tattoo is good for me. The other HTC phones with larger (capacative) screens are simply bigger and bulkier than I want - so this Tattoo is a good compromise.

The only thing thats giving me difficulty is to decide on what level of auto-syncing I want across all my various apps on there (exchange, gmail etc). As tempting as it is to leave all of them on - it does affect battery life - which I guess is to be expected.

Blimey, that was a bit of an essay.
