I saw it a couple of days ago and I honestly was not that impressed by it. Some of the CGI was the highlight of the entire movie, but the remainder was nothing special. I found the main character to be annoying and comical most of the time - a characteristic that I do not think was intended for the entire movie. Plot holes, humanities stupidity/ignorance, and a bunch of other details round out the rest...

7 out of 10 (if that).

The main character was supposed to be comical in a lot of different scenes. Also, he wasn't a character that everyone was just supposed to love either. The intention was for people to have mixed feelings about him, debating whether or not he's a good person.

"Plot holes"? Could you expand a bit on that?

Humanities stupidity/ignorance reflects exactly how stupid and ignorant humanity is today. Masses are asses, simple as that.

"And a bunch of other details"? Care to explain?

It was alright, a 7 out of 10 for me. Plot holes? There were many of them.

How come they couldn't have found their "fuel" amongst the many items they had in their ship, Christopher clearly explained that human technology was unable to provide the fuel they needed and this same fuel that was used to fuel their ship also turns Wikus the Dickus into a prawn.

Not to mention the aliens clearly have advanced technology with the capability to kill us off. And why are Nigerians allowed to sell cat food to these aliens with the intent of getting their weaponry, wouldnt MNU do something about it since they want those weapons for themselves?

And worst of all, why the hell would you put our treatment and diplomacy in the hands of a corporation instead of a worldwide consortium of countries. This is not what would have happened in real life and when the movies whole premise is to go for the documentary feel in order to give it a realistic feel, it boggles the mind why it would happen.

Come on it's a movie it's not Lincoln-Douglas. It's an action sci-fi and to be honest they don't benefit hugely from the kind of ambiguity that the Wikus character has for at least half the movie.

7 out of 10 ?

Come on, i´m like the ultimate movie critic and i thought it was utterly awesome.
That´s gotta mean something eh ?

for me it was the best movie i´ve seen in a few years.
to everyone that gave it a lower rating, do me a favor, please post the movies, released in the last 3 years which you´d have given a higher rating.

7 out of 10 to me is a pretty good rating it means a fairly good film. Which is what this was an enjoyable film beyond that IMO it's just hype. I've gotten into this argument before here but I don't think any movie really deserves anything much above 9 out 10, not even Russ Meyer's Beneath the Valley of the Ultravixens. LOL. Seriously though 9.75 out 10 what exactly differentiates between a 9.5 and 9.75? Can anyone really define that what would make a movie 2.5% better or worse? It's crazy I tell you!

And off the top of my I would give a higher rating to, There Will be Blood, Letters from Iwo Jima, Gran Tourino, Milk, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, 3:10 to Yuma, Pans Labyrinth and for that matter Gone Baby Gone I think it has one of the most realistic and intense gunfights in modern cinema.

It means different people have different opinions...
Children of Men and The Dark Knight were better movies in my opinion if you wanted to gauge my interest in movies based on just 2 films.

Well then I'm sorry the film wasn't dumbed down enough for you to like it [rolleyes]. The imperfections(and hell, downright terrible things) that wikus had made him more human, and therefore easier to strike a connection with and to relate to in the end. And YOU may have wanted an action sci-fi, but that's NOT just what this film was.

If you want brainless action sci-fi go watch the Transformers movies.

I don't think you did. =P

I kind-of agree with cleeve. I haven't seen it wholly yet, only bits and pieces but from what I gather it is more than a brainless action sci-fi that so many other movies are (now) and I've seen a lot of movies get criticized for not being something that it was never intended to be. I'd like to go see it this weekend and see how much more it is than an action movie, and I have my hopes up.

^ That might have not come out quite right, but it's been a long day.

If this is what passes for highbrow entertainment these days hell we might as well all give up and watch Tori and Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood. Yeah it some what uses a metaphor but seriously it's not like this is even a mildly challenging film. Oh! An evil corporation that's novel. It's also hugely derivative of Alien Nation which whilst cheap and cheesy definitely explored the concept on a deeper level in it's TV series spin off. Don't get me wrong I thought it was a thoroughly enjoyable film but it's no Blade Runner.

Resorting to personal insults doesn't make your opinion any less invalid.

How am I a hypocrite? You said you didn't want the main character to have depth because it's just an 'action sci-fi' so I said I'm sorry if the movie wasn't dumbed down enough for you to like it. It's a logical response.

Your response was hardly logical in the follow up to a genuine criticism of the character development in the film. If you want to give a logical response then keep it to that subject. Saying things like sorry it wasn't dumbed down enough for your liking (plus rollseyes) or If you want brainless action sci-fi is hardly a worthwhile response. It's pretty clear from the Lincoln-Douglas comment that I don't want brainless action sci-fi and was in fact suggesting that neither the character nor the film it self had much depth nor was it particularly thought provoking. It was an above average blockbuster beyond that it's just hype.
