Then grow a pair and clean it.
Yeah, you aren't a man unless you clean up cigarette residue out of the countless nooks of a computer, for someone else.

Indeed, EAG hasn't tippled that smoking stunts your growth yet though so I wouldn't worry too much. He can probably walk into his computer via a free USB port and clean it down good and proper unlike the rest of us.

Well he made it sound like he had to do that and refused to do so because it smelled bad. Waa.

I didn't HAVE to do it. I did it once for a person at work, as a favor. For free. Never again.

I am exceedingly sensitive to it. On the order of it causing breathing problems for me. So yes, its a health hazzard and I won't work on machines that smell like it. I'm not required to by the business i work for so I refuse.

I can smell that a smoker has been through a hallway minutes after they've gone. I can smell it on the highway when the driver of the car in front exhales. So yes, I'm extremely sensitive.

ffs the original post said nothing about the computer being so coked with tar that the fans had stopped working and this is the reason the computer was fooked... simply that apple had somehow reasoned that because someone had smoked within 100km of the thing that it isnt covered under warranty WHICH IS COMPLETE ****ING BOLLOCKS!

Except that smell is the chemicals from a cigarette, since you can smell them you are breathing them in.... [no]

One thing we have got to remember is that Apple like to make out that it is this ultra modern, clean and minimalist computer manufacturer, that likes to think that it and its products appeal to the uber wealthy and cool group of consumers. To think that one of its products are tarnished with muck of any sort is abysmal to Apple! Think of the damage to Apples image if people saw a mucky Apple device! The sort of people who work for Apple are these middle class yuppies!

They don't seem to mind working on electronics with dried up residu's of body fluids... I bet alot of them don't wash their hands after and happely eat a sandwhich which they hold in their hands.
Containing sweats, skincells, snot, what no more.

But ooooh smoke is soo bad and..and..and..

Yeah, because body fluids and snot get inside every little area of a computer and have tons of chemicals like smoke. Oh wait, no that was just a bad comparison.

For the record, I am a smoker and I would never smoke around any of my electronics because I have seen/smelled first hand what it can do to them.

I'd imagine this has more to do with Apple not wanting their equipment to get dirty rather than any genuine concern over biohazardous material.

There's always those mouthcaps and latex gloves for the cry babies.

Or let a smoking employee fix it, or better yet.. Make things clear in the warrenty policy that when system fails due to smoke it is out of warrenty.

But Apple shouldn't be doing this the way they are doing now.

Yet you are quite happy to have that sitting in your lungs?

Waa, a little bit of chemicals...oh no!
There is some pretty nasty stuff in those things, if you kept working on these sorts of machines it could come out to be a large amount of exposure.

Even small amounts of certain chemicals can have an effect, unless of course you don't mind living with asbestos, or how about inhaling a few hydrofluoric acid vapours?

Even being a smoker I wouldn't want to work on a computer that has been festering in cigarette smoke.

Not even remotely, which is why I am trying to quit. Why shorten the lifespan of my electronics as well?

I'm pretty sure it's already in there. Probably covered under the clause that covers hitting the monitor with the keyboard and such.

You missed something else in my post, you immediatly bite the bait.

Secondly, you don't own your electronics long enough to die from smoke, and proof it if something has stopped working correctly, that it is the direct cause from smoke.

Plus computers and laptops are being used in a million tons of dirty environments which can pollute the inside of one and make it stop working.
The only thing is what Apple says is that it is a BIO Hazard for their employees to work with.

Now is their thought the same about the simple poor Chinese or whoever in Asia made all the electronics for the "rich" western consumer?

Oh no, it's a money issue and while the smoking = bad is high on todays agenda, this is the time to fight.

I know that Sony has in their PS3 booklet saying that it doesn't like to operate in a environment where there's cigarette smoke.

My warrenty is over and it works well still.

I can understand if they say, well Sir, since smoke is the cause of the defect we cannot place this under our warrenty rules, so whatever the damage may be and nessecary to repair for it to be in good working condition again, it has to come out of your own pocket.

[rofl] If there was "bait", I certainly didn't "bite" it.

The fact of the matter is, cigarette smoke is detrimental to electronics, plain and simple, moreso than dust.

And tell me when a computer repair man died or got cancer due to second hand smoke coming from computers he/she was working on?

This snobby attitude of some people is repulsive.
