They host millions of videos to millions of users all over the world, their operating costs are pretty astronomical, it is understandable they need to become aggressive with advertising.

[rofl] Yeah... don't hold your breath but if one does gain as much popularity, expect the same to happen with it, to recoup the incredible operating costs.

If they do, then maybe people will think "F this" and move on from posting videos of themselves blowing up phoneboxes with fireworks!

Contrary to yours and John McCain's beliefs, the internet isn't a mystery box powered by black magic.

I do know that Youtube cn afford to send ad-sense partners who get enough views thousands of dollars per month already.

So we can assume that they must already be doing ok from whatever advertising money they already get,it probably has little to do with funding their bandwidth costs,it is a nice extra source of revenue I'm sure though.

Passive and or niave attitudes like the ones being displayed are why the internet is now a festival of annoying advertisements.

Thousands of dollars per month!? [surrender]
Damn it's a good thing Youtube's not losing a million a day.

As with many of the other 'net sites, they've still not worked out a way to make a return on their investments - advertising is only to be expected!
Personally, I don't really care BUT I wish they'd do something about the speed of their feeds - I rarely see more than 1Mb/s from them.
Would also be nice if they had moderators or similar who could go through the replies and ban some of the effluent eating scum with the assinine comments!

Unless you can prove that it's probably best to keep quiet. You're probably right, but the only people who can answer it are Google's accountants and they're not talking. Of couse you could believe theregister and it's ilk but then you're as bad as tinomen.

Bandwidth costs will be astronomical but youtube should be able to find an advertising model that doesn't force adverts on people inside the videos. Or go subscription. Or PAYG. Either way, ads in videos will stop me using it but I'd be happy to be charged a few pence for each video I watch.
