This is a good thing. Eventually we'll move back to classics such as mozart and won't have to deal with all the crap music of this and the last few generations. "Mozart leads us into the heart of the spirit realm. Fear takes us in its grasp, but without torturing us, so that it is more an intimation of the infinite. Love and melancholy call to us with lovely spirit voices; night comes on with a bright purple luster, and with inexpressible longing we follow those figures which, waving us familiarly into their train, soar through the clouds in eternal dances of the spheres." -- E. T. A. Hoffmann |

the average listener would only be able to hear Mozart's Paris Symphony once in his lifetime and never again. It forced audiences to develop finer listening skills, connoisseurship, and taste. Now we are constantly bombarded with noise and sounds on a daily basis so that most people do not have long enough attention spans to sit through all three and a half hours of Le Nozze. I'd argue it's the other way around. Back then you would so rarely hear music that when you did hear something good it would sound sublime. Hear something amazing, truly divine ... in fact you weren't really exposed to enough music, diversity or performances to truly be able to judge a good performance, or appreciate it for what it was, you were merely in adulation because it was something you'd never before experienced, and possibly never would again.
e.g. first time you go to a sports even, the power of the crowd, the intensity, the sheer visceral effect it has on the senses can make it feel like nothing you've ever experienced, and will be a memory you cherish. Once attending sporting events becomes habit, the experience becomes diminished, however you also build a greater knowledge of the game, and allows you to be much more appreciative when you do see a truly amazing, tense, close fought match. Nowadays you've got so much choice, so many varying genres and the ability to hear an artist recorded and live countless times that you do build up an ability to be able to gauge a good performance from a bad one, a fine piece of a music from recycled garbage. I'm not saying modern music is better or even good compared to classic, merely that surely we are now in a greater position to claim to be connoisseurs, snobs and be able to judge musical performances based on more then a once in a lifetime experience. Not that that makes up for X-Factor, though. |

I just don't understand why people idolize songwriters, and take to heart songs, that are about nothing more than getting drunk, sleeping with loose women, and shooting people. These songs don't even have a message. The rap songs that do have a message and a deeper meaning go mostly unnoticed while the chart toppers are nothing more than a catchy beat and a whole bunch of vulgarity about getting drunk and being a *****. I enjoy lots of music. I listen to rap, rock, etc. But when you see people at these concerts in a frenzy for something like the black eyed peas and that "boom boom pow" song I can't help but feel that I've been born into a society of retards. And for the love of all that is holy autotune needs to die already. Every time a rapper uses autotune God kills a kitten. That's a lot of freaking kittens. |

The big reason I don't listen to very much music now is because it seems that the art of musicianship is dying. Its all vocalists and special effects, and the music is just programed beats (Boom Boom Boom!!!) plus synths with nary a human in sight.
Once, you waited to hear the parts of a song when the musicians were let loose and you could hear their skill and enthusiasm. Now.... all the actual musicians must be out of work! Plastic stars, produced in a factory. (Miley whatserface) Plastic music made by machines, and plastic songs with lyrics that are as interchangeable as lego blocks........ Bleah. This lady probably sings with more emotion and passion than most stars, now. |

The music industry sucks if you play a real instrument thats not a guitar or drums nowadays. |
