I wouldn't be sure, back in the day in stock form a 350z or SRT4 was a close race. I don't think a slightly modified civic is there, I'm talking D16 ~90hp civics here.

When I was a kid it was the other way round, this being quite a long time ago, most cars (very few American/performance vehicles down here then) were good for around 70-80 mph or maybe 90 for a 'fast' car. I had a Mini that would top out a bit higher than that. At that time, I drove quickly on the open road - cardinal rules, stay in my own lane, respect other road users and speed limits) often averaging 80mph as it was VERY good at cornering. However, it was common when I came up behind a larger car that they'd put their foot down when I pulled out to overtake - sometimes 20 or more mph faster than they had been driving - IMO, that's a very dangerous thing to do that could result in someone getting hurt or killed.
After I'd pass them they'd continue to tailgate me - remember this is a LOT faster than their previous speed - and quite oftern repass me when I slowed for speed limits. Then on the open road the same thing would happen.
Some may disapprove, but what I'd do with these tailgaters would be to continue at my normal speed until there was a good, tricky corner with good visability through it and take the corner close to flat out. After that the problem would go away - either crashed or scared off. I figure they were asking for it and better they have a single car incident than take out another car!
As I like smaller cars, it's happened when I've been driving them as well but very rarely.

Someone wants to travel faster than me? Simple - I move over a bit and perhaps slow down a little to make it easier and safer for then and let them go - is that so difficult?

Rice = Japanese in general. The G35 is a pingy rice burner in a slick looking shell. Cars should sound throaty.

Personally, I also love the sound of a healthy turbo' engine coming onto boost!

That was a dyno tune there not crazy about the power curve. I have since re-tuned it with the help from Vitessee racing and have gotten close to their power curve but have not had it back to see. This is what their tuning usually looks like.

Last that I have is sadly not my car, but I bought a bunch of the parts off of the car in the video. So it looks and sounds similar on the dyno... minus a few shiny bits and horses. Slowly working towards it though.

Well from my experience, a 'slightly modified' car only includes an open air K&N filter, and a 5" backbox. Maybe its just this country.

I see drivers still doing this to others today.

Years ago I went down to Melbourne for the F1 (the first race Webber was in). I was driving a POS Renault.

On the dual carriage highway on the return trip I passed a Pajero, once I passed him he retook me and then sloweed down again http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/blink1.gif This continued for about 20 kay's until I got sick of it. Being young I dropped the hammer (I was going the speed limit officer) and really got a good buffer away from him. Next thing I know he is passing me again only to slow down in front of me again.

He was not trying to race me, he was just not happy anyone was overtaking him, he had a Ferrari hat on as well.

So I sat back and put up with sitting 5 km/h under the speed limit (his speed) until I got to the turn off to Canberra. When that turn came up I overtook him again and then turned off the highway (yes I was being such an arse http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/biggrin1.gif).

BUT

He turned off with me!? So as it was single lane and twisty I put some distance between him and myself. When I could no longer see his headlights I pulled of on a side road and turned my lights off and waited.

He soon came flying by and didn't see me, his engine was screeming as he was trying deperately to push the 4wd to catch me [rofl]

After a few minutes I then pulled back onto the road and continued on my merry way.

But get this, 20 minutes later I saw him driving back in the opposite direction past me http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/blink1.gif

He had turned off the road to Sydney to try and overtake me, adding almost an hour to his trip!!! I was laughing so much for atleast a few days folowing that.

I for one enjoy riding around in a 8 million € Maybach Exelero that hit´s 0 to 100km/h in 4,4 sec and peaks out at about 350 km/h. lool ohh man i wish.

I used to get this all the time in my first car. It was a bright red 2000 Ford Escort ZX2 and it had nothing done to it other than some new speakers in it. I had a racing sticker in the back window though, and apparently that made these ricers think it meant I wanted to race. I get that crap all the time and I drive a stock impala...

Things haven't changed all that much over generations really, just the cars and the movies/movie stars that influence the young. And because of movies etc glorifying such actions and street racing...the open road has become a playground. Kids will be kids, you can tell them, teach them, show them, in the end they are still going to do dumb. They all think they are professional drivers because they modified their car and took it to a strip and got a time.

All you can do is smile at them and keep yourself safe. Then miles down the road wave at them as they are on the side getting a ticket. Which is such a great feeling.
