Default So I gave in and bought an iPhone 3GS
I swore I would never purchase one, as it did not have a decent camera nor flash. But I finally gave in after getting pissed off at the shitty reception issues with my N97. I was lucky as CEX had a brand new one in store that had just been traded in [thumbup]

Only bad thing is I lost like £200 on my N97 as I could not be arsed to sell it on ebay. Still keeps me on a rolling 30 day contract so I can upgrade at will. The phone was £475, so about same price as my N97 cost me. Only thing was they forgot to give me the sim widget thing and a cleaning cloth. Has anyone got one spare?

First impressions are good, I think I can deal with the crappy camera. Youtube works great, downloaded all around me ( finds taxis etc and shows on the map, awesome stuff ) Also found out TV Catchup has an iPhone beta! OMG the quality is just bloody incredible! Live tv on the phone!

Of course surfing the net is a dream, although I find it can be slow with DNS resolution ( slow to access page initially ? ) I am using this with O2 btw. Any great must have games or apps I should get?

Congrats on your purchase [thumbup] it is the phone I'm leaning towards also currently, let us know here if you get any dropped calls and stuff, or perhaps that's just tech-media overhype.

Cheers and no dropped calls so far, signal reception is superior to my N97! I do miss my multi-tasking for stuff like adding a phone number to your phone book while making a call.

You can use a paper clip instead of the SIM removal tool. Just bend one leg out, poke it in the hole in the SIM tray and it pops out.

Pop into an Apple retail store and ask for a new cleaning cloth, they should give you one. As bungle says, a paperclip will do fine as a sim removal tool.

You do get a bit of call dropping and network drop outs but no more than other phones IMO.

Ok will pop in and try and get one at Bluewater. I am not convinced by the anti fingerprint coating it has on it. Also I find that it dns resolving can be a bit flaky as it can take a little while for it to "wake up" when connecting to the net after not using it for a while. Is this normal?

Just press the contacts button or home button when you are in a call, you can edit, add, delete, surf the web, etc. all while you are in a call.

Or get a bluetooth piece. And not the Apple one, I tried that one and it's crappy. I like my Jawbone!

I love my 3GS too. Though I wish it would come with a bloody instruction manual. I had no idea about half the stuff it could do, such as ...

1. Holding down the home button initiates voice recognition
though there are many things you can ask it like 'what song is this?' etc but I don't know all that it's capable of. List anywhere?

2. pressing the power button and home button at the same time takes a screenshot of what's on your screen.

3. whilst the phone is locked, double tap the home button to quickly bring up a mini ipod screen which lets you skip track and adjust the volume.

I think the best thing about the 3GS is how quick and smooth everything is. Opening an app taps NO time - the only time it takes is to see it appear on the screen, the same games for closing the apps.

Where can I get this TV catchup BETA btw?

That also works if you're in another app with the ipod playing in the background. This way you don't need to switch to the ipod app to skip songs.

Congrats on your purchase Risco. I didn't think I'd ever buy an iPhone before, but i'm glad I did eventually - even if Apple does annoy me as a company and i'd never touch anything else that they sell.

Absoluting loving mine here, even though i'm only over 2 months in on a 24 month contract with o2. Wouldn't have one of these if Orange didn't let me cancel my contract back in August for nothing.

Only problem I have with it at all times is the fact i'd HATE to drop this phone at least once. Does anyone have any good protection sleeves?

Wow, just tried that on my iphone. Thats probably one of the best examples ive seen of live streaming, the quality is incredible. Im guessing this will soon be an app which we'll have to pay for

I've got a nice soft leather case for mine with a flip-open front. I like it better than the hard cases, because I don't have to worry about scratching or cracking the case instead. And I think those soft gel-type sleeves are plain ugly.
